diverward Posted November 28, 2013 #1 Share Posted November 28, 2013 Does anyone know what is happening with Sapphire Princess for July & August 2014? There is nothing on Princess website for those two months. Could she be having a major refit at some dockyard in the Orient? If that is the case it would be great for us as we are sailing on her in November 2014.:D Thanks for the info.
DrivesLikeMario Posted November 28, 2013 #2 Share Posted November 28, 2013 I looked in the agent portal and nothing comes up for those months either. I'm thinking it must be a re-fit which would make sense since that's that area's low season with typically stormy, rainy weather. Princess is closed for the holiday or I'd call and find out for you. caribill Posted November 28, 2013 #3 Share Posted November 28, 2013 The Cruise Atlas which came out this past August says "Summer sailings will be announced soon." I doubt it is a re-fit as it has not been that long since one was completed. As a guess, maybe the ship has been chartered to Asian travel agencies or groups. IECalCruiser Posted November 29, 2013 #5 Share Posted November 29, 2013 No drydock. She just had a major one in January of last year. It seems like Princess has no idea what to do with the Sapphire in Asia between May and September of 2014. She was scheduled on the West Coast through May, they canceled her cruises after the Crown arrived on the West Coast, then they canceled cruises after January and scheduled a TP departing in May and ending in Beijing, then they rescheduled the TP for April ending in Osaka, then they scheduled 3/4 day Coastals which they are now giving away for free because the demand has been so low. Who knows?? We were booked on the original TP but canceled when she ended in Osaka. We have booked a full suite for January and will apply the FCC on a cruise next Fall. We are sorry to see the Sapphire leaved the West Coast. With her drydock mods last year they made one if the best ships in the fleet even better. silverwillow Posted January 3, 2014 #6 Share Posted January 3, 2014 Anyone have any more info on this? I would have looked at sailing on her in July but can't find any cruises.
PacificVenus Posted April 5, 2014 #7 Share Posted April 5, 2014 Anyone have any more info on this? I would have looked at sailing on her in July but can't find any cruises. Almost all Sapphire Princess sailings from Jun - Aug are chartered by China travel agencies, sailing various 3-5 nights cruises to South Korea, Japan, Taiwan. Only a few cruises in Jun are open for public booking. There are also a few cruises chartered by Japan in Apr, and by Taiwan in May.
Colo Cruiser Posted April 5, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 5, 2014 (edited) I agree all the major updates were done. And now they are doing many things while the ship is underway with passengers onboard. :( Edited April 5, 2014 by Colo Cruiser
Rare karatemom2 Posted April 5, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 5, 2014 It was mentioned by a staff member on our Sapphire cruise last week that the ship has been chartered by a large Asian travel organization in upcoming months, so perhaps that explains why it isn't showing available cruises during that time frame, or at least some of it.
