Prepurchsed OBC

Did a search, but could find an answer.......

Is repurchased OBC automatically added to your account or do you need to go to the customer service desk to get it applied?

We've bought quite a few OBCs, but not sure what we gave to do onboard as it's the first time repurchased

Also, they put a notification in your stateroom confirming the OBC, along with tickets for excursions, pre-booked dining reso's, etc.

In the majority of cases, the OBC doesn't "show" on your on-board account until a day or two into the voyage.

Good advice above - bring a copy of your confirmations.

I'm guessing that because you've been on CC since 2004 that you already know the answer and you're trolling. In which case I say... do better!

Unfair, since I was going to ask the same question.

I wonder what would happen if NCL offered a deal where you get 10% by pre-paying, but you don't get unused refunded.

But they don't.

Mike, people pre-purchase crap all the time... From the DSC to NCL excursions to speciality dining to the UBP to bon voyage gifts... You name it.

The fact of the matter is folks pre-order this stuff for a variety of reasons...because they're planning or budgeting, they're gifting, or they want to not think about the bill... You know this and anyone who has been on CC since '04 knows this.

Any other explanation is disingenuous.

Hi mike

Not even sure what trolling is (even though ive been on since 2004). Im more of a rccl cruiser and didn't know you could pre purchase obc.

I'm assuming "trolling" is a bad thing? Can't people ask a simple question...

If buying obc gives a discount then im on board for it...if not why not put extra money into your visa/mc that accumulate points for purchases???

You seem to be out of line here. Let people ask questions. Not everyone knows all the answers like you..

  • 3 weeks later...

I bought myself $250 OBC and $60 casino credits because I am a bad saver and feel like I'm saving this way. I'm leaving March 23rd and will probably purchase another $100 OBC in January

Ps. I don't get the snippy answers sheesh ask questions all you want. If you don't like it don't read it. I guess some people like to complain for the hell of it.

Yes, people like to prepay for a variety of reasons.

Personally, I would never, ever give somebody my money before it is required. I do not care to spend time making sure it is applied, or trying to get it back for whatever reason.

Glad it does work for some people.

I have just prepaid my Service Charge along with my final payment for my next cruise, it gets it out the way. It suits me to prepay, for one thing it saves cluttering up my account with daily entries, makes it easier to see what I have spent on board:o.

On my recent cruise I added $850 to my OBC . I did this over a few months prior to the cruise every time I had a few extra dollars. What I noticed was when I purchased multiple denominations , it didn't register on my paperwork I printed off . I called prior to the cruise and it took NCL ages to find all my credit but finally they sent me a full receipt . Once on board , I asked had they received my updated total. They had not and I didn't get the full credit for five days even though I gave the copies of the itemized purchases of my credit. No big deal , but very annoying

:confused::confused:

For the first time I've prepurchased OBC for our upcoming cruise for the sole reason that it's for casino slots and there's a benefit attached - buy $10 and get $20 in promo play. Only one pp allowed per cruise. In fact, I learned about this by reading these boards.

Plain and simple.

This can happen as others have written. No idea how often.

I can not imagine the paperwork and phone calls if you cancelled your cruise because of some personal problems just before you cruised.

That is not OBC but an speciality item where you benefit by prepurchasing it (as you can't even purchase it onboard).

When prepurchasing OBC you don't gain anything and you can achieve the same result by putting the extra money to a separate account, under the mattress, etc and then taking it with you when travelling. :)

I too understand that people do have different reasons for the arrangements and they are free to do so but I've personally read so much about the difficulties with prepaid OBC that I'm gonna stick to CC or if I don't have one, plain cash.

That's exactly how I feel, too. To each his own.

I purchase OBC when I can. My work can be very seasonal, aka construction, and I want the peace of mind. I know what I have paid and what I can splurge on during the cruise. Last cruise, I was given back $100. :D If I had a steady paying job, then I would not worry.

We purchase OBC presailing too. Have found, however, that the majority of times the full amount is not credited to our account. For that reason we always request a list of "amenities and OBC" (which include things like any OBC received for early reservations or gift of wine or such from TA) from our TA before sailing. Once we bring those to the front desk it takes very little time to get things straightened out. margretha

Thank you Nutley Chick. I am almost afraid to post a question anywhere but on my roll call.:(

I was wondering the same thing about if there was a pre-purchase discount.

Ask away ;)....please don't be concerned about some of the folks on these boards. 99.9% are here to help.....well latley 99.8%....lol

Another way to avoid a huge bill at the end of huge cruise, is to save the cash, put it into a savings account. Withdraw before you leave, bring cash and deposit it at the service desk when you board. Works the same way, but avoids all of the headaches associated with lost credit and you know that it's there immediately.

And even with interest rates so low, you might make a little interest in the meantime...
