c-legs Posted December 17, 2013 #101 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Tell me about it A Sixth. ! I'm in FL, so I cant complain about the weather.. but here's a snapshot of my day today : dozens of phone calls, several meetings & conference calls (the first one began at 7 am), and I just arrived home from a Board Meeting. Still haven't had dinner yet. Maybe I'm crazy, but I'd rather skip all of that, and be on Connie and in Key West right now :) Andy, aren't you glad you have all that spare time ??:D;) You know...: phone and conference calls can take place on board a ship ......food for thoughts....( Yea....right...!!! ) About the new turbine that got shipped and arrived dockside ~~ 3.00am this morning...would it have come from a warehouse in So.Fla ( I didn't think such items were simply stocked as inventory in a warehouse....) ? Or was it shipped from GBSY/Freeport, ( a more likely location where such engines might be stored in limited quantity ) ? I still suspect there was not a spare turbine engine on board to start with; if there had been, the change-over would have started the very moment the chief engineer spotted the malfunction...( unless the turbine called it a day at the time sailaway preps were taking place...)...and the new ''spare '' turbine could have shipped to FLL to be taken on board thursday. Cheers

A Sixth? Posted December 17, 2013 #103 Share Posted December 17, 2013 AND I AM JOINING YOU -- NOAA updated their current weather conditions phone recording about forty-five minutes ago and the temperature in Fairbanks, Alaska was -33 F !! Fortunately no wind chill. Right now I could see myself sitting on the Connie with some fruity little drink in hand enjoying the warmth of Key West. There would be no complaints from me! ATTENTION ATTENTION!!!!! THIS IS NOT A DRILL!!!!! We have found our leader!!! The freeze-dried Northern Aurora will guide us to a .... to a.....:confused::p (I have to think this through a bit more...... But what ever happens we will still not be as comfie tonight as those on a Celebrity Cruise ship.... docked or underway! :D )

C 2 C Posted December 17, 2013 #105 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Protest ??? This might get interesting .. maybe a few people will be kicked off the ship :-) It's very costly to disembark passengers when a foreign port has not been reached. Substantial fines are involved. However if one becomes a source of discontent, the fine would be wrath it. If I was on this cruise I too would rather walk through Key West every day than Cozumel. I believe seasoned cruisers would not be as upset as much as those who have never had an incident before. I know I too would rather be stuck on Connie rather than here in the cold. RodPat Posted December 17, 2013 #106 Share Posted December 17, 2013 ATTENTION ALL POSTERS TO THIS THREAD!! :p I am organizing a protest rally too. I want to protest the fact that I am NOT on the Connie in Key West right now!!!! :(:( It's 20 below Fahrenheit right now where I am, (-29 C ) wind chill included... (I am not kidding!!) Put me down for that protest also. I am sitting here in frozen NJ and have no cruise until April. Would love to have the opportunity to be stuck in Key West. How bad can it be, not much different than being in Bermuda for a few days. Some people just love to complain, feel sorry for the staff on Connie. They have to smile at all those grouchy people. trabeler Posted December 17, 2013 #107 Share Posted December 17, 2013 With the number of cruise ships in and out of Miami and Fort Lauderdale there probably are a lot of cruise ship parts stored locally. The GE LM2500 is a very common industrial engine. They maintain units in many states as part of shared exchanges / service contracts with users. When we have had emergency situations and needed an engine that we didn't have on hand, GE was able to borrow a unit from another user to meet our immediate needs. It is likely that GE was able to locate an engine within a day's drive away, assuming that Celebrity didn't have one onshore or in a rotation at an overhaul shop. C 2 C Posted December 17, 2013 #108 Share Posted December 17, 2013 The problem may be that many people on board are there on a gambling cruise and while in port they can't lose their money. ;)
Dawniepoo Posted December 17, 2013 #109 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Latest word from the captain is we are all fixed and leaving at 11pm. I have not run across anyone who is upset with the current situation. Everyone seems happy. I myself am thrilled we got an extra day in Key West. lunyma Posted December 17, 2013 #112 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Hi to the 12/14 Connie roll call gang! Hope you're all having a good time, stuck in Key West <G>. Sorry you won't be making it to Cozumel, but I know how many of you wanted to spend more time in Key West anyway. Turbine problems or not, I'd still rather be on that ship with y'all, but I obviously had to cancel. Cub Fan, Rhonda and Bob... If you're reading this, I wish I could have met you. We too, live in Buffalo Grove. You left just in time to miss our lovely cold, snowy, and blustery weather. Cindy and Grant... I didn't see your name anywhere (George filled us in on the refugee board), but if you're reading this anyway, we miss you, and would have loved to see you again! __________________
fin Posted December 17, 2013 #113 Share Posted December 17, 2013 (edited) It's ten after ten now, and there are men standing by the stanchions securing the aft portside lines. Should be a good sign Edited December 17, 2013 by fin

fin Posted December 17, 2013 #115 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Well, they went away, but the rat guards are removed from some of the lines. It is 22 minutes to eleven, so his 11PM departure will take some hustle.

fin Posted December 17, 2013 #118 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Well, not yet. Ten after eleven. Lines still fastened. Makes me wonder when the Captain says they'll leave at 11 whether he believes it, whether the chief engineer doesn't know how long it takes to swap out a part, or just what goes into making an announcement like that. queen61 Posted December 17, 2013 #122 Share Posted December 17, 2013 I think they are the original 2 that tendered last night. They are in the water on the starboard side but the Davits are on the port side so we will need to pull away from pier to hoist them back aboard. I am fading big time. Not sure will be at the casino tonight. There was a lot of beverage package use today so maybe folks have called it a day.

Oville Posted December 17, 2013 #124 Share Posted December 17, 2013 Poor passengers!Poor Connie! We're onboard and want no sympathy. Other than the engine issue Connie is in great shape and we are enjoying her. Key West is a fun place and I'm sitting on my aft balcony enjoying the sights of the harbor looking towards downtown as I type this. No complaints here and have only heard one onboard. Send from device_name using Cruise Critic your_app_name App They've been off their position on board since the ''regular'' departure yesterday, before she swung around and redocked at the Mole, portside. They'presumably been ''in the water''ever since. Perhaps as anticipated transportation between the Mole dock and KeyWest today....
