Jeanine&Jim Posted December 16, 2013 #1 Share Posted December 16, 2013 Hello, We need to rent a car at the Port of Miami to have for 2 days post cruise stay at Maimi Beach and return to Fort Lauderdale Airport. Dollar says they have a shuttle to rental center off airport. Does anyone know if this is true or had any experience. 2 years ago we rented from Alamo at POM and we never got picked up by the shuttle after waiting 1 1/2 hour and many many phone calls. We had to hail a cab to take us to AVIS in downtown and we got the last car available. It was awful way to end a cruise. We are not opposed to getting car at airport in Miami but prices are higher. Just least amount of hassle is best. Thanks for any help.
CruiserBruce Posted December 16, 2013 #2 Share Posted December 16, 2013 We had a similar problem in Philadelphia. When you book with a rental site not at a major location location like an airport, those "local" offices have zones that they serve. They have very strict rules about going outside their zone. You need to contact the specific office involved, and ask them if your pick up location is definitely in their zone. Get a name of who you talk to. We had this problem with Enterprise, and it cost us two hours. But it got us a nice upgrade when we finally got a car.
JohninDC Posted December 16, 2013 #3 Share Posted December 16, 2013 NAtional, Alamo and Thrifty share a shuttle that runs between POM and their MIA airport location. Do you need a car while in SB? Between parking and traffic you might consider taking a cab to your hotel and not bothering with the car until you are ready to head to FLL -- there are several samll car rental locations scattered around SB (Thrifty seemed to have several that I recall seeing). Good luck! :)
Jeanine&Jim Posted December 20, 2013 Author #4 Share Posted December 20, 2013 I read on earlier post that shuttle can't go into the terminal and they pick you up on the street and or sidewalk. Any truth to that?

Any truth to that? Are you talking about at the Port? Nobody picks up inside the Terminal. They are all at the curb.
