Tender Question

The size of the tenders can vary depending on cruise line and also whether or not they use their own tenders.

When you get in and out of the tenders you should be very careful and it's a good idea to sit right down and not get up until the tender is ready to be offloaded.

It can be choppy and normally it is most choppy when it is tied to the cruise ship and you are waiting for it to depart.

Can I add a question? What is the tendering like at Catalina Island (Carnival cruise)?

Assuming you are taking a cruise out of Long Beach? Avalon uses its own small, single level tenders.

Last February we were escorted into port by dolphins and sealions.

So we will tender in Belize, right?

I will be on the Carnival Glory in late May and just now discovered I'll be tendering for my first time.

- What can I expect sea conditions to be like then? I imagine seas are gentle during that time but I'm only guessing.

- Does anyone have pictures of the boats that are used for tendering in Belize?

- Do you tender in Cozumel, Costa Maya, or Roatan?

- Any other pointers about tendering in Belize?

Don't know about Roatan having not been there, but Cozumel and Costa Maya are real ports, not tender ports.

Both are some distance from the "town"- Cozumel, RCI and Carnival have docks right next to each other, roughtly 2 miles from the downtown. It's constantly being built up down there.

Yes, Belize is a tender port. The ships anchor a long way from the tender dock, so it is a long ride there and back.

Cozumel, Costa Maya and Roatan all have a dock.

I've been on 18 cruises and have never used a lifeboat as a tender. I was in CocoCay in May and they have large double decker boats that carry a lot of passengers (I would think at least 200 or so) and they run back and forth to/from the ship and CocoCay.

If it's too rough to tender, you'll probably get a day at sea. Is it wobbly getting onto a tender? Not usually, but there can defnitely be some up and down movement. There will be a small ramp (usually) with railings on both sides and a crew member helping you on board.

The ride into CocoaCay takes somewhere around 10 minutes or so. The longest time you'll have is waiting for the tender to fill up.
