LeesaMaree Posted January 11, 2014 #26 Share Posted January 11, 2014 Please don’t take this as an insulting question! We are cruising on the Voyager of the Seas in March when it re-positions from Sydney to Perth via New Zealand. I imagine there will be at least 3 formal nights on the 18 day cruise and given that the general perception in the UK is that folks from Australia/NZ prefer to dress down for meals I was wondering if it will be worth the effort to bring a dinner jacket etc and for my wife to include gowns in our limited baggage allowance if we are going to feel out of place wearing them? Grateful for views. :) M & J My Parents Will be on that Cruise. We are a family of cruisers and we always dress for the formal nights. I myself get dressed up every night for dinner but more so on the formal nights as this is our holiday for the year so i like to relax during the day and dress up at night. i get alot of looks because some people just dont understand the formal concept i myself would prefer to be overdressed and its all about how each person feels i guess. My parents cruise about 3 times a year and they have found with each cruise less people get dressed up for formal nights but i feel that is because more people are booking online these days and do not get the appropriate information they need for these nights. if people do not want to dress formal they should stick to the buffet. I will continue to book my travel through my travel agent he gets me the same prices as you can online but he does all the hard work and gets me all the correct information. he is a cruise specialist. NSWP Posted January 12, 2014 #27 Share Posted January 12, 2014 (edited) LeesaMaree..well said. Personally, I would ask to be moved if my table partners were rude enough to wear shorts and t shirts in the MDR, as has been reported on these boards. Dress standards on these 'Australianised' ships have really gone down hill recently, i.e. Carnival Spirit and the P&O Australia ships. I am no dress snob, but surely people can dress appropriately? Cruise_me_Crazy Posted January 12, 2014 #29 Share Posted January 12, 2014 Les, our dining companion was sent away to change his shorts for the MDR. That was a Sth lac cruise departing Bris port, so they enforced. :) lovely gupy, just didn't realise there was a dress code!
