Royal shaded loungers?

Besides the few shaded lounge chair areas by retreat pool, and there any shaded loungers one deck up above? We were thinking of trying to occasionally rent retreat cabana, but people on this board have stated that those cabanas actually don't provide much sun protection-- so for us no real point for renting one. I am alrealdy assuming that we won't be able to get Sanctuary--

We just like any shaded area away from crowded main pool. (Spring Break time)

If it's shaded by the superstructure, that'll change as the ship sails. There's no shade anywhere near the pool. As I remember, there were a very few loungers at the bottom and top of the stairs above the Retreat pool that had some shade, but that was only for a few hours. Here are a couple of photos that show these areas... sort of:

You can see the partially shaded area to the left and near the stairs:

Really sad that Princess did away with the promenade deck. It was my go to spot for shade. Being fair skinned and burning easily I can't sit out in the sun but still enjoy being outside so the promenade deck was perfect.

Outside the Horizon Court are couches and chairs

With coffee tables in Front of them where you can put your feet up. They are in the shade. It's a lovely place to sit and have a nice view of the ocean. There is a bar there too. I saw some people stretched out on the couches for a nap.

Also, depending on the time of day, the loungers on the port side and starboard side near the Vista Lounge have some shade according to Dave. The fact that they have a pad on them looks like a nice feature as well.

If I purchased one of those umbrellas that can clamp on to lounge chair would that be ok? Has any one seen this on the Royal- (If only I could get a sanctuary shaded lounge-- but I am assuming the worst)

Get there early when you board.

If you don't mind being away from the pool, there were lots of shaded loungers on Sun Deck just aft of the pool. As stated earlier, depending on which way the ship is headed (either eastbound or westbound), one side of the ship always seemed to be in the shade. Same goes for the aft Promenade Deck near the Vista Lounge. Here are some pictures:

There are more loungers further to the right side out of this picture, and they are located under the overhang created my the walking track.

I would assume not. On a windy day it could be a safety hazard. On a calm day people passing by could hit themselves on it.

Ok, I will forget the umbrella idea. Sun Deck aft , under runnning deck will work for us. This way if I want to take a quick dip in Retreat pool, it isn't that far away to lounge---- Thanks, everyone. Anita
