Loreni Posted January 6, 2014 #1 Share Posted January 6, 2014 And does the new location cause smoke to waft onto promenade. We like to walk on the promenade every day and are OK with being limited to one side, since the other side allows smoking. However, we are a bit worried about the Golden because the deck plans show the casino doors opening to the promenade on both sides. Has anyone who is sensitive to smoke noticed a problem with this. Also, why did Princess bother with the expense to move the casino to this deck?
waltd Posted January 6, 2014 #2 Share Posted January 6, 2014 I believe they moved the casino to deck 7 to put in window suites on deck 6. I have never seen doors open directly from the casino to the promenade.

OP...never had a problem with smoke from the casino nor walking around the promenade deck.
IECalCruiser Posted January 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted January 6, 2014 (edited) We have been on the Golden for 28 days since the Casino was moved to the Promenade deck and 14 of those days were after the smoking change. Never had a problem with smoke on the Promenade deck. Even the smoking areas (near the doors) were not a significant issue and I can sense small levels of smoke. The Golden and Caribbean had the Casino moved to the Promenade deck and had a Crown Grill and Window suites added to Fiesta deck. The Star was supposed to have the same changes made before the other two but issues with the drydock in San Francisco required a change in plans and only the Plaza deck changes including the addition of the IC and Vines were completed. Rare cr8tiv1 Posted January 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted January 6, 2014 The Casino was moved to Deck 7 so that 7 window suites could be created. This is a wonderful location and the smoke from the cigar bar (Deck 6) does not filter into the suites. I did not miss a balcony any of the times I stayed in a Window Suite. Wish more ships had them. I have been on the Golden and her sister ship the Star. I prefer the layout of the Golden. Deck 6 was much more functional with the move. Both the FCC and CC staff have their own office. Their seemed to be much more room. I did not like Deck 7 on the Star with the Crown Grill, Excursion Room, Captain Circle counter, and FCC office. This created a narrow, congested passageway to the Princess Theater. Golden: Deck 7 - I do not recall any passenger doors going from the Casino to the Promenade (emergency exits, yes). I am smoke sensitive and was not bothered by any smoke. I will note that you will have to pass both the smoking lounge and/or casino to get to the Princess Theater. No way around it. Well, you could always walk forward on another deck and use the forward elevators/stairs or walk the Promenade outside to the forward doors. Rare cr8tiv1 Posted January 6, 2014 #7 Share Posted January 6, 2014 Well, you could always walk forward on another deck and use the forward elevators/stairs or walk the Promenade outside to the forward doors. Yes, on the Golden you could walk out on the Promenade Deck (to also avoid the crowds) or to the forward stairwells. But both stairwells and elevators are in very close proximity to either the Casino on Deck 7 or the Cigar Lounge on Deck 6. I remember when the casino was used as an indoor smoking venue, but they don't seem to be as bad in recent cruises. I don't know if they have improved the ventilation system or if there are just less smokers. My preference would be to have a smoke free casino, but that will never happen. Smokers are also drinkers. Cruiserkenn Posted January 6, 2014 #8 Share Posted January 6, 2014 Loreni - I am a dedicated promenade walker, too. Morning, noon, and night. Never had a problem with smoke from the Casino. Like you, I don't care for the smoking on the promenade, either. I zoom past the smokers. Thanks for being a fellow walker:)
caribill Posted January 7, 2014 #9 Share Posted January 7, 2014 Like you' date=' I don't care for the smoking on the promenade, either. I zoom past the smokers. [/quote'] How ironic that the Princess "walk for the cure" for the Susan G Komen anti-cancer foundation has the participants walk through the cancer causing smoke.
