Female Butlers

............ But if I walked in for my mammogram appointment and the tech was male, I'd feel very uncomfortable. Hard to pinpoint why exactly, I just would. Maybe it's the higher amount of hands-on manipulation required to do a mammogram as opposed to a standard ob-gyn exam (including breast exam),...............

Er ... a butler isn't quite so hands on, so the comparison doesn't work.

We all have preferences. As for publicly announcing certain preferences, if we don't want negative feedback, discretion might be the better part of valor.

In most cases the butler would not be doing any hands-on manipulation of the passenger's private body parts, (unless perhaps you decide to use the stateroom to film some adult videos).

Having a gender preference for your butler would be more like having a gender preference for your mail carrier, somebody who delivers stuff to you, or a gender preference for an office clerk who schedules appointments for you, or a waiter who serves you food.

(Well, I saw that someone here did express a gender preference for a waiter, but to most of us it would make no difference.)

To the OP, I hope you have a wonderful cruise.

If it makes you happy to fantasize about having a handsome, hunky man like ______ (fill in name of your choice) as your butler, there is nothing wrong with that.

Just hope you are not too disappointed once you experience the mundane services that the butler actually provides and realize that it would not make the slightest difference whether those functions were performed by someone who is male or female.

The opposite side of the coin:

Once a man from some very religious sect had posted that his modest wife was upset about the possibility of an adult male other than her husband coming into her bedroom and bathroom every day.

So they wanted to know if they could be assured of getting a female stateroom attendant.

Just a thought or two: The Aristocratic women in Downton Abbey have what is called a "Lady's Maid," and the men have "Valets." As my husband gets older he seems to think that women tend to be better than men at "most things." Is he liberated or what?

I was responding to a post that said it shouldn't matter what gender someone is, only whether they are qualified to do their job. So I brought up a mammography technician. I think my point was made- sometimes the gender of the person IS relevant, regardless of their ability to do their job.
