Not Many of us smokers left, question about Oasis

Recommended Posts

I know there are not many of you who smoke. I am a smoker and DW and I are considering booking Oasis for May. I know RCI eliminated smoking on balconies effective 1/1/14, but what areas can you smoke on Oasis?

Please, this is not a thread about smokers/non-smokers, just a question from someone who wants to be prepared. Whatever the areas are, I'm OK with, so not interested in opinions, just facts please.

PS: I have to go out for awhile, but will sign back in later today and hopefully have some responses.

Thanks

This is from RCI's website:

Q: What is the Smoking Policy onboard?

A: For the comfort and enjoyment of our guests, our ships are designated as non-smoking; however, we recognize that some of our guests do smoke. Therefore, to provide an onboard environment that also satisfies smokers, we have designated certain areas of the ship as smoking areas.

Cigarette, cigar, e-cigarette and pipe smoking is permitted in designated outdoor areas of the starboard side of all ships; with the exception of Oasis-class ships that will allow smoking on the port side of the ships. To assist in locating areas where smoking is permitted, guests will find visible signage posted within all smoking areas and ashtrays that are provided for use. Outdoor areas near restricted areas, food venues, and kids play areas and pools will not allow smoking. On Oasis class, smoking is not permitted in Central Park or the Boardwalk neighborhoods.

Casino Royale allows smoking and has a designated area for non-smoking guests. There will be visible signage indicating the non-smoking area in the casino. There are select cruises departing from China that will not have a non-smoking area in the casino.

Onboard all interior public spaces are smoke free*. Smoking is not permitted in any dining venue, theater, bar, lounge, hallway, elevator, and jogging track.

I'm pretty sure OP is asking specific to Oasis smoking areas. I know near the Solarium bar on the port side is a smoking area. It is right above the cantilevered hot tub on the port side. There is a cigarette receptacle near the railing there. I saw smokers along the port side pool deck also, but this was pre Jan 1, so I don't know if anything has changed.

As already mentioned, there are plenty of places to smoke on the Oasis, port side decks.

Also, the casino.

I'm pretty sure the OP was hoping for more specific information, so he and his DW didn't have to wander all the way up and down every port side deck in order to find the nearest DSA.

OP, sorry I can't help you, but will be very interested if anyone who has sailed since Jan 1 can reply with the info you requested.

Thanks ncsteeler and mom says. I was trying to ask for specifics. I did look at RCI web page and as quoted above it says designated areas, and on a ship as large as Oasis, that could be anywhere. Just wondering where those areas were.

Guess I'll have to search myself if we decide to book Oasis. Thanks again.

I, too, am waiting for some reports from those who return this weekend on Oasis and Allure. I think the outdoor smoking venues will be more challenging since they do not have the traditional outdoor promenade that is nearby the entertainment venues onboard.

I have a feeling the casino will be a very very smoky place considering it will be the only place to smoke without having to go up to the top decks.

On other ships, they will have the casino and cigar bar located near the entertainment areas, not to mention a few steps to get to the outside promenade.

I do wonder how Oasis/Allure will handle this. I can't see myself having a drink watching live music in Schooner and having to go up several decks to get outside for a cigarette. I believe they did implement the indoor venue change previously--although it didn't add all the people who could quickly get to their balcony cabin for a cigarette.

My cruise is on Allure in a few weeks (booked before they announced the new policy). I won't smoke on the balcony as that is the new rule, but I will be checking on the convenience or inconvenience factor in determining whether to book again on an Oasis class ship or stick to those that have the outdoor promenade.

Schooner is close to the aft centrum, so you could probably just go down one deck to deck 5 and use the outside promenade.

Indeed it would be! But I can't see them allowing smokers anywhere on the jogging track on Deck 5

That is my assumption as well and why I think the casino on Allure/Oasis is going to be horrible--even for smokers. I'm fairly certain I read somewhere that the jogging track would be all non smoking (which makes 100% sense). For those two ships, I think it will be challenging to implement. I personally feel they should have one other indoor place to accommodate those that would be smoking on their balconies vs. only the casino. Of course, it really all remains to be seen. Even if they allowed ecigs in other places it would encourage some smokers to use those on the ship/balcony instead of smoking regular cigarettes in the casino.

In November on Allure, the casino (and a portion of Blaze) were the only indoor smoking areas. And, you are correct--it was pretty horrible (and I am a smoker). Frankly I couldn't even tell the smoking from the non smoking side.
