Progreso Excursion

First timer here.

We'll be in Progreso 1/28 and would like to visit Xcambo(Mayan) but don't want to book thru Carnival due to the inflated price nor do I wish to spend most of my time on the bus traveling an hour to a beach.

I did a search on TripAdvisor but found no info on this or most other excursions in Progreso.

 

Any suggestions? Any other ruins with pyramids in the area close enough for a half day so we can also explore the port and possibly Merida.
