Galveston - wine purchase

Hello all -

We are flying into Houston Hobby and would like to have our shuttle make a pit-stop for wine before we board the Triumph next month.

I noticed there is a Walmart and Kroger's near the pier (Seawall Blvd). Does anyone have advice as to which one we should stop at? I am not familiar with Kroger's. How are selections of wine? Can I find at least a few twist off Chadonnary to choose from?

Thanks

If you have a private shuttle this is no problem. In fact, have them exit 61st street and take you to Specs Liquor. Kroger is a nice grocery chain and has ample wine selections.

If you are with a group then expect the driver to exit Harborside Drive. There is nothing except gas stations on the route. One street over is The Strand, but I cannot remember wine being sold by the bottle at any of those shops.

Kroger has more wine sections than wal-mart

Specs # 1 and then Kroger

Both will provide your needs!

Not Walmart

Specs cannot be open on Sunday because they sell hard liquor and they are prohibited by state law to be open.

Kroger can sell beer and wine after noon on Sunday since they do not have a hard liquor (package sales) license.

  • 1 month later...

We are flying in on Sunday, April 20. Triumph is leaving Monday April 21.

Will be taking a van into Galveston around 4:30 Sunday night and staying at the Harbor House.

Will there be any place for us to buy a couple bottles of wine Sunday night? I see mention that Texas doesn't allow alcohol sales on Sunday?

If we have to wait until Monday, do the sales not start until after noon?

Hoping to avoid packing wine bottles to bring with us!

No hard stuff on Sunday. Liquor stores are open 10 AM to 9 PM Monday - Saturday.

Wine and beer are sold at grocery, convenience, super stores. No sales before noon on Sunday, but I think it's only 2 AM to 7 AM all other days that beer and wine can't be sold.
