Has anyone ever used the app whatsapp for text messaging while on the ship or in the Carribean?

We use WhatAp and as long as the person you want to talk to has WhatsAp you can call, voice text or text. You still need internet to do it, but at least you can stay in airplane mode. Just used it on Allure last week to call my brother one day and when I did Empress alone, I called my husband every day on WhatsAp. We love it, works great.

With most modern phones, you don't need Whatsapp.

 

They support wifi calling and wifi messaging.

 

Just enable wifi calling while you are on land with a cellular connection. I know that T-mobile and ATT support this.

 

For iPhones, iMessaging requires that both phones be iPhones.

 

Other apps that will also do this include Skype, Google HangOuts, Viber, and several others.
