Never been, but 2 words sum it up for me: "No casino". I think I would die of boredom. Not to mention all those kids :eek:

 

OMG, no offense to firemanbob but you could be my wife. What to do without a casino? It would be a boring night but that's just me. Luckily for me my wife agrees with me.

My parents were talking about a family cruise next year for their 50th and we told them if they want to get Disney we wont go. I'm sure it's a great cruise, just not for us.

Clearly, you won't get an unbiased opinion by posting on the Carnival forum. We have cruised on both lines. And both have their advantages. We were on the Carnival Dream in September and there were many kids onboard. We went on the Disney Dream just last week and it felt like just as many kids. Disney allows you to bring on as much alcohol as you'd like but oddly, there's much fewer drunk morons staggering around. No casino on DCL but they had Bingo and plenty of other live entertainment.Is Carnival cheaper? Heck yes. Is Disney worth it? You betcha!

Maybe as a compromise, you could take her to Disney World for a day or two for either a pre or post cruise, but book your cruise on some other line.;)

Alot more expensive and its not much fun for adults but great for kids.

I'd be bored without a casino too. Disney has adult areas reserved for just that, adults. Same for their beach days. They have child free zones. Still not enough to justify the cost for me.

I agree with your wife. A Disney ship is more relaxing than a Carnival ship. It is easier to get a spot by the pool. I know that sounds crazy, but I think the age of the kids is younger and things clear out for afternoon naps, or they are busy doing things with their kids like taking them to have their picture with a character. The shows are far better on Disney even if they are Disney themed. They have great spas and pools in the adult only area. You also get that Disney service. The two times we sailed with Disney it was on kids sail free offers, so it was the same price as Carnival. If you can get a deal it is not more expensive than Carnival, but you get 3 different restaurants included and non-stop fountain pop that you fill your self - just to name a few. Don't let your preconceptions keep you from a great cruise.

Although a Disney cruise would sound good, I just can't get past the cost. When the kids were younger I would always check on it. The price was just so much higher than a land tour.

 

There's always places to go relax on carnival! even outside of Serenity. We're not into the loud music pool games either, but still find places to enjoy on carnival. Even if it's just relaxing on our own balcony.

A Disney cruise, HORRORS!!

 

If I want the Disney experience, I can drive 15 minutes and be at any of the theme parks. I know there are tons of children at the Disney parks too but they're spread out over many acres.

 

Cost is a definite factor when I cruise and I would never go on a cruise ship that doesn't have a casino.

 

So...Disney cruise: higher price, no casino, family atmosphere, children, children and more children.

 

Other cruise lines: lower price, casino, adult atmosphere, some children, drunk morons...my kind of cruise.

I can't get past the price difference. (Caveat, we are not Disney, Pixar, Hello Kitty, Marvel, what ever else the put on anything that they can sell people. My 5 year old can wear white underwear thanyouverymuch.)

Booze is one thing (I'm not sure what smugglers do with it) but how do you turn all of your libations into an adult beverage? I'm not talking rum & coke or a screwdriver, those are drinks that I can make them at home, on a cruise I want a beverage. So bringing it on wouldn't work for me. Nice to know that you can though.
