I am sorry to start a thread with out first searching other posts, but I can't seem to find the search function.... can someone help me here:o

Anyway, we will be in Grand Turk in late April (the 24th) and we plan to do some snorkeling in the morning, then lunch at jacks. Next, we wanted to see the island...are there drivers/Taxis/tour guides near the port? should I be looking for a license sticker on the wind shield? should I establish a price for say, three hours, up front? any recommendations? any assistance would be helpful. Thanks in advance for your help.

Taxis are zoned. Here's a link.

There used to be a trolley train that left Local Village every so often. There may be similar out of the cruise center parking lots. There is a HopOnHopOff bus. Not sure what the times are.

As far as what to do, John Glenn's space capsule replica, just outside the cruise center toward the airport. The lighthouse. Maybe a quick stroll around Cockburntown with some of their smaller shops and local items. Other than than not too much else to see. You'll see 90% of the island on the way to and from the lighthouse.

  • 2 weeks later...

You cannot take the hop on hop off bus unless you are on Carnival Cruise Line. We were just there Friday and stopped at the booth to try to take it. We were on Celebrity so we just went to Margarittaville for the day. Awesome pool free to all. Great fun.

Just returned from Grand Turk last week. The taxis are located just past the shopping area in the Cruise Port. There are guides to direct you. We found the taxi drivers (we had two different ones) to be very accommodating and really interesting. They share much of the history and culture of the island. We had lunch at Bohio Dive Resort and it was $8 per person each way. If we go back we would gladly hire a taxi to tour the island as opposed to having an expensive lunch although the lobster lunch at Bohio was delicious and the resort had a lovely atmosphere

We will be there in 3 weeks...just wondering how much the lobster lunch is? DH really likes lobster and we had planned to taxi In To town for lunch anyway. Was thinking of one of the little restaurants in Cockburn.

We were just there recently. We went out to the taxi area. The first driver, a female, was talking about $35. for a tour of the island. We went with a guy named "Butch" for $20 in a full van. (6 or 7 people) He gave us some great commentary and took us out to the lighthouse at the north end of the island. When we arrived there the gate was closed so he made a phone call and a couple of guys were there to open up in 5 minutes. There was even a little snack bar that served beer! It was just what we had been looking for (the tour, not the beer) He recommended Jack's shack on the beach for a bar. Margaritaville is WAY overpriced.

There is free wifi on the island so if you must use it on your vacation it is a much better option than the ship.
