Bars open for sailaway

Hi -- On our roll call thread, it has been discussed where we might meet up for a sailaway party in case of bad weather. It may be cold, rainy and windy when we leave from Galveston. I know most bars are not open; usually only the Sky Bar. If it is raining, will they open others?

We've used Viking Crown as a bad weather backup for sailaway party. Nice views up there.

Don't fret, you'll be able to find somewhere to drink before, during and after sailaway.

Viking Crown is where everyone goes for the NJ sailings in the winter months. We try to stay outside until we go under the Verrazano but don't always make it.

I have sailed from Galveston 3 times; twice in February, and it has never been too cold to stay out on deck for sail away. Once it was a little chilly with the wind. Shoot, today its in the upper 70's, like 78 degrees outside. I'm 30 miles from Galveston. No worries.

Out of Galveston, we have always "assembled" at the pool bar, port side...if pouring, or frigid, we use the Crown as our back-up.
