Henpecked Husband Posted February 21, 2014 #1 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Are there any hotels close enough to the port in Ft Lauderdale to allow us to walk to and from? A mile to a mile and a half is about our range. Also, is it pedestrian friendly enough to allow this? Thanks.

It's a large, industrial type area.

Henpecked Husband Posted February 21, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted February 21, 2014 We like to walk. We're both letter carriers, so It's no big deal. We pack in backpacks, and to us a mile walk to the ship is preferable to dealing with the hassle of a shuttle or cab. We've walked to and from cruise ships in New york and over the bridge in Miami. A good way to burn a few calories before or after consuming too many calories.

Only the northernmost terminal (Princess) is about a mile to a mile and a half from the nearest hotels and there are some sidewalks along the way, but beyond that there aren't any. it's very commercial, busy and much farther than a couple miles. Ashland Posted February 21, 2014 #6 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Taking a taxi into PE is not a hassle at all, and it'll only be a few $$'s. More than likely you'll be glad you did ;)
tunaman2011 Posted February 21, 2014 #7 Share Posted February 21, 2014 Greetings I have a quick piece of advice: Don't walk! First - there are no sidewalks and the port streets are not the best due to the volume of heavy trucks hauling the containers in and out of the port. Second - only terminals 1,2 and 4 on the northern end of the port next to the convention center are close enough to even try. Third - there are guard gates to check vehicles in/out of the port. These are not set up to handle foot traffic. Take a cab, it will only be a few dollars. Good Sailing Tom
BlueHerons Posted February 21, 2014 #8 Share Posted February 21, 2014 It isn't just a cruise ship port, it is a very busy industrial port. Don't walk, take a cab.
bouhunter Posted February 21, 2014 #9 Share Posted February 21, 2014 A taxi will be much less "hassle"....
Rare JamesEM Posted February 22, 2014 #10 Share Posted February 22, 2014 The distance from where Holland docks to the front gate is about 2 miles, as others have said take a cab or van.
