Older Crowd Cruise?

Wife and I are thinking about the Gem 11 day in October of this year. Just wondering if anyone has done a similar cruise out of NYC? We are guessing for the time of year and length the cruise will have an "Older" crowd with very little children.

I am doing that one and hope that it will be a fun time~~I love to listen to music and dance~~I can do without a lot of children running around! The "Breakaway" was my kind of ship! I have been on the "Gem" before in November and it was fun!:)

Once you cross the magical 8 day mark on cruise length, anything longer tends to skew older.

Thanks, we have been on the Gem twice and really like the ship. Not much of a dancer more of a zip liner

Not many people can afford the time or money to take longer cruises, so you wind up with an older crowd. There will still be some kids and families, just less.

Not always true. Our b2b on the Jade in January 2014 (Mediterranean - 10 days, then 11 days) had PLENTY of kids of all ages. Mostly but not exclusively European kids.

No one is disputing anyone's rights to bring their children on board. Your comment is out of place and, quite frankly, a bit silly.

 

The question was simply one to find the BEST cruise/time for an older crowd with LESS children on board.

 

I have also heard that the best cruises for folks who want an older crowd with less kids are the longer cruises (more than 7 days), and those cruises during the times that school is in session.

 

We generally ONLY travel during the school year for this reason!

Thank you…….Yes my thread is getting a little off topic. I simply asked if the crowd is going to be older? Not that really matters I just don't want to be on a dead cruise. My wife and I are 50 but have the mentally of 30 year olds. I don't want to cruise to be a HAL cruise were most of the people are in their 70-80's and go to bed at 9pm:D…….Not that their is anything wrong with that. This would be our 5th NCL cruise and most likely our last for a while (other things to do and see)

Cruising during school session usually helps, but we are hoping that a longer cruise (9 nights on the Gem) will also lessen the young 'uns on our cruise!

We did the 11 night cruise on the Dawn in 2007, and the 9 night Gem last year.

 

I'm worried that the Epic 7 nighter in April will seem like a weekend getaway.

The earliest I get up is at sunrise to go sit on the balcony with some coffee and my camera!

Mediterranean cruises are much different than NYC cruises people plan for those cruises and time off. Anything over 9days tends to be a much older cruise. The cruises that leave from NY have people who don't want to fly and have time to travel for longer periods. I like the longer cruises but have to say that 70 and over group are a large majority. There are people of all ages but plan for an older quieter cruise. I love the casino and if it is a longer cruise it is pretty dead after 11 except for us die hards. I am going back to europe the cruises are lively As far as kids go anything after sept is going to have less kids because of time of year

The transatlantic cruises, long without many port days to me seemed to have the least kids.

 

I lke all kinds of cruises though and kids are fine and can be fun and refreshing to be around.

My dh and I are in our late 50's and are on this cruise (Oct 27). He plays in a rock band, so...we don't tend to go for the more quiet entertainment. We like the longer cruises over 7 days and find that there's a variety of ages on them. This will be our 2nd time on NCL, the first was about 10 yrs. ago.

When we cruised on the Jewel for 11 nights, a northern atlantic crossing, we were told that there were 7 kids onboard!

 

We will be on the Breakaway for 12 nights in February next year and hope that there aren't too many children on that cruise. I don't mind children but for a relaxing vacation it can be too much.
