Burlesque shows

I was wondering why Carnival doesn't have the Burlesque shows and the Magic shows that they used to have. The first cruise I took was in 2002 and they had Burlesque dancers. I believe it was on my second cruise that they had the magic show one night. They need to go back to the better entertainment. This is just my opinion.

Burlesque shows? Huh?

I haven't seen burlesque shows, but then we started cruising in 2007. I would think that it would be too risque for Carnival--especially once parents would complain about the fact that their kids had seen it. I think it would be great for Carnival to have this type of entertainment.

We have seen magic on a couple of cruises.

I don't know that Burlesque shows would be considered better entertainment? I suppose it depends on the viewer correct?

I love the current shows. I love the Epic Rock. I thought it was great.

I don't expect Broadway, but even then, I have not loved every Broadway musical I have seen either.

In years gone past (late 70's and early 80's), a lot of the major cruise lines offered tours that took you to topless revues in Nassau and San Juan.

For clarity's sake, I wouldn't have called them "burlesque" as the ladies, while topless, weren't stripping per se as a part of the "entertainment", but had other roles within the show as magician's assistants, chorus line girls, etc.

I remember on my wife's and my honeymoon in 1979, we took a nightclub tour (sponsored by NCL) in Nassau (Paradise Island) and was stunned when the show opened with a young lady descending on a swing from the ceiling of the auditorium totally topless.

We saw a really bad "magic" show on our cruise last year. It was a "mind reading" show really. One of his tricks was to get 3 preteen boys to draw a picture with him not looking. Then, he said when I hold up your pic & ask you if it's yours, say no. The object was for him to correctly guess who's picture he was holding. Of course, they grinned like donkeys eating briars when he held up their pic & said it wasn't theirs. And all of his "tricks" were the same concept. I could've done that show without even practicing.

Don't flame the OP.....it is correct that the older shows with more than 4 dancers were more like Las Vegas revues (the girls wore G-strings etc), so that may be what the OP was referring to. The ships that have not been converted to 2.0 still have these older shows (we were just on the Victory and really enjoyed these shows more too). WE too miss the magic shows and the hypnosis shows, they were really fun. Entertainment has gone severely downhill.....fewer and fewer live bands/music. You have to try other cruise lines to see the difference....it is huge!

when we were on the sensation several years above my boys got their pics taken with the showgirls. They had the bright orange skimpy outfits and feather head pieces like the showgirls in vegas. no thongs though. skin colored leotards so from a distance you might think they were wearing thongs. Not sure I would have called them Burlesque. showgirls yes burlesque not so much.

i have been on the Triumph 2 different times and they have them, both a magic and a burlesque. Both times, the shows were very good, and the main dancers for these shows are only in the shows with the magic guy, and he mentioned that they are his girls. So, dont know if that helps, but last year we were on and they ad it, and as someone said, A PACKED HOUSE:eek:

The current Carnival burlesque show is called "A Kiss Goodnight" and is listed adults only; on the Magic it was held in the aft lounge and was hosted by the fly-on magician. I believe that it's only on the Magic and Triumph. I guess Texans love their burlesque.

He may have said that but it's not true..there is one dance cast on the ship and they do all the shows.

My daughter until recently danced for Carnival.

There is no burlesque show on Carnival. There is A Kiss Goodnight which is more showgirl than the production shows.

The Carnival market would never accept burlesque! I don't know that I would want true burlesque. Lordy, the amount of complaints I've seen about G strings in the production shows...is ridiculous.

Costa does a topless show on a couple of their ships. This is just a normal part of a showgirl show in Vegas, Europe, Australia etc etc but there is a huge percentage of the American population that is very uptight in these matters.

Never seen a Burlesque show on any cruise but have seen magic shows recently.
We had the most amazing Juggler on Valor, just two weeks ago!

When he first came out, we thought it might be a variety show

with maybe 3 different acts?.. but this guy held our attention for the entire hour!

He was very good, entertaining too!

I have seen them on a couple on a couple cruises in 2011-2012. I had actually forgotten about them until I saw this thread. They were pretty good actually. They were held in one of the back lounges and were clearly labelled adult only. Although, of course, there was no nudity at all.

As to what happened to them, they got cut to be replaced with the farce carnival currently calls entertainment. In other words more FREE FOR CARNIVAL audience participation crap ;)

Our sons did also in 2003 on the Paradise. (non smoking then)

In 1978, my first cruise, I sailed on the Carnivale. We went to San Juan. Had just turned 21. Friends took me to my first all male review and casino.

Carnival never had Burlesque shows on board. They did have showgirls in magnificent, colorful costumes in some of the shows.

The Caper )the old Fun Times) had a warning for parents not wanting their children to see the skimpy outfits!

CC had some threads about the scandulous, g-string clad dancers.

The showgirls still pose for pictures outside some venues on board.

The stiffs around here constantly complain about thongs and outfits the performers wear. I can only imagine the number of threads that would be posted here complaining about "simulated sexual grinding" performances. It would probably exceed the number of Cheers! and Faster to the Fun posts we see now.

Sounds awesome. Were they old enough to enjoy getting the picture taken more than the picture itself? :D

You're probably talking about the show Curves. That's what I saw it on Sensation. It was pretty risque; it was even described in the Fun Times as PG-13. I haven't seen young kids in the theater, but the performers' outfits were a lot like swimsuits with a gothic overtones, so nothing they wouldn't see at the beach.

The Magician on the Triumph had a Burlesque act

Also did a late night show for adults only

Isnt A Kiss Goodnight considered a burlesque show

you dont need nudity for it to be considered a burlesque show

Guess I misunderstood the OP's reference to Burlesque. I do remember the Production Shows where the female dancers did have skimpy outfits, but since they weren't topless or anything I didn't think of them as burlesque.
