Now I'm a little confused. What's the difference between gift cards and cruise cash?

gift cards can be used again if you don't use all the money. cruise cash is use or lose on that specific cruise you purchased it for.

I keep reading that it's "use it or lose it" but then others say, "You can cash out in the Casino." Which is it? If you don't use all the money, can you cash out in the casino at the end of the cruise...or, if you don't use all the money, you don't get it back at all? It's got to be either one way or the other.

So, is it "use it or lose it"? Or, "Cash out at end of cruise in the Casino". Which is it?:D

Do the gift cards have a service fee? I've only purchased ones for a specific store/restaurant. I thought that an AMEX gift card that you can use anywhere (on Carnival) had a charge associated with it. Something like paying $105 to get a $100 gc.

No service fees for gift cards or egift cards and the value never expires. If you buy a physical gift card there is a shipping fee. It was .90 for two cards.

You get them at carnivalgiftcards dot com.

:confused:OK so I got some cruise cash. Is there a way to see how much I have on the Carnival web site? It does not seem to show my balance for the cash I just added...

It won't show up on the Carnival website. I printed off my email confirmation but it wasn't needed; once on your cruise it appears on the tv channel that shows your account balance.

Keep a running tally. Save offline copies of all receipts sent via email to your phone or tablet. I've heard some people argue in favor of Carnival gift cards but if you know how to budget it doesn't matter. The gift cards you have to go to the kiosk and activate, or the Guest Services desk. The Cruise Cash is just there when you board.

I have a question. I want to do the cheers program. So would it work if I go ahead and pay online for that amount in cruise cash and just charge the program to my card when on board ... Or do I need to deposit my cash money on board at the kiosk and then charge the cheers. IDE rather have money for it before the cruise already. Thanks.

Buy the all-purpose Cruise Cash and it will go against Cheers. There may be an initial hold against your credit card on the first day however. If you are doing a debit card, I'd call Carnival and ask...but if you just don't want a huge expense on your Amex/Visa/Mastercard the all-purpose Cruise Cash will offset Cheers.

Thanks for the answer. Then there doesn't seem to be any problem as some say with buying the cruise cash if you want...you Can get your money back if you don't use all the cruise cash. Good to know. We're not big drinkers so we don't have a big bill to pay at the end of the cruise except to pay for the watches the DH usually gets me.:D We just put everything on our credit card via our sale & sign card and pay it off when we get our next month's bill. No harm, no foul. Everyone should do as they see fit and people shouldn't be so judgmental.;) Live and let live!:p

First time cruiser here wondering how some of you rack up such a huge bill? I don't plan on bringing a lot extra, so don't want to be surprised. So far I plan on just doing the steakhouse once. Thanks. Sorry this is kinda of the subject.

I use it for each cruise. It just makes managing the finances a bit easier to purchase a bit at a time each payday. The last cruise the Stewardess was cracking up at the huge stack of Cruise Cash/Cruise Bar certificates she delivered to us the first day! I made a purchase every two weeks for over six months and some weeks if I had extra cash, I made extra purchases.

They are technically non-refundable but you can cash them out through the casino - there are detailed instructions available here on CC about how to do it, it works like a charm!

Hi Nursepixie,

Racking up a big bill...

Amazingly, it happens easily! Drinks in particular, a little time in the casino, maybe a couple of gifts for the kids, excursions. You certainly can avoid doing so, but something seems to happen when you are on that ship and feeling relaxed!

Might be best to have some extra just to cover yourself. Whatever you do, have a great time!

Thanks! I'm not a big drinker, so I should be ok there. There could be issues with gambling, I've only done it once, but really enjoyed it :).
