SA Traveler Posted March 17, 2014 #101 Share Posted March 17, 2014 As the saying goes I'll believe the changes when I see them. I was at Chops two years ago on my cruise and loved it. I sure hope they won't downgrade their menu to be like a Mc Steakhouse lol . I hope they will see that passengers are not dining at Chops and will go back to the old menu. BTW Can I still get the baked Idaho Potato and Red Velvet Cake? I will be on the Splendour and if anyone has the new menu could you please post it? Thanks No baked potato but red velvet cake was still there. Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I747 using Tapatalk
travelplus Posted March 17, 2014 #102 Share Posted March 17, 2014 May I take a moment? T A T E R. T O T S. Really? Oh Dear God if they are anything like those salty tater tots you get in the Windjammer and Main Dining Room Buffet at breakfast then Royal Caribbean has really "enhanced" it. BTW I would love to see Food Porn on this thread of the new vs old Chops menu so I can see what your all talking about. I'm a steak connoisseur and I will only have a Baked Potato with my steak. No tater tots unless they are not salted like the ones you get in the Windjammer for Breakfast. My Gosh why couldn't they make Potatoes O'Brien, Potatoes au Gratin or some other dish like a Philo Dough stuffed Borekas with meat or potatoes? I thought Royal Caribbean is innovative. Even I could redesign a side dish like garlic mashed potatoes with turnip and gruyere cheese on top.
Cindy Posted March 17, 2014 #103 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Does anybody have an update on the Navigator's Giovanni's Table menu? Are the filet and lamb chops still there, or have they disappeared now?
Cruzin-K Posted March 17, 2014 #104 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Sigh :( I'm taking my Mom on her first ever Royal cruise in a year and a half. That's plenty of time for RCI to fix this disaster of a Chops menu, or make it worse  I'm just happy that Mom hasn't been on Royal before, so all the cost cutting won't be apparent to her. If I want a Chops filet, I'll probably just pay the upcharge in the MDR rather than pay even more to dine in the restaurant and eat the exact same thing, and I can probably get a baked potato in the MDR.
royalcruz Posted March 17, 2014 #105 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Now why would you add fish dishes to a steakhouse? If I wanted fish dishes I would eat in the Main Dining Room thank you very much. Some people don't eat meat but prefer the service and ambiance of specialty dining. It gets boring going to the same dining room night after night. When we boarded Navigator on 2/16, one of the first persons we spoke to told us about the menu change and how disappointed they were with it. We were already booked for that night, so we got to check it out for ourselves. Well, we totally agreed with him, it was a big disappointment and letdown from our previous Chops experiences. But this new menu is ONLY on Navigator --
Rare nbsjcruiser Posted March 17, 2014 #107 Share Posted March 17, 2014 (edited) Just off NOS last Sunday. New menus are coming, though for our cruise GT was the same as usual. Don't know about Chops as we didn't eat there. However, menus displayed in the DL and CL showed changes that we did not like at all. First, GT's new menu has no filet and no lamb chops. There is a strip steak offered. New Chops menu, now that the fee is $35 pp, has no 10 oz. filet, no crab cake appetizer and no t-bone. There are a number of fish dishes and things such as short ribs. So for more money you get less expensive food! We missed the 10oz filet at Chops on our recent Indy cruise. The options then become a steak to small and one too large. I managed to eat the larger one but I would have preferred a 10oz which would have left more room for the Mississippi Mud Pie :--). vermontvoyager Posted March 17, 2014 #108 Share Posted March 17, 2014 Oh goodie! We've got Chops set up one night on INDY in 2 weeks...so if that ends up being a debacle...we'll let folks know. Just off Indy on 2/23 and dined there twice and they still had the old menu. Not sure about now of course and they had the best filet I have had ever in Chops then, even if they lowered the large from 10 oz to 9 oz.

SICruiseGirlNYC Posted March 18, 2014 #114 Share Posted March 18, 2014 My DH and I along with 2 friends dined at Chops twice on our last Splendour of the Seas cruise and we all enjoyed our meals there. However, I don't think it is worth $35 per person plus another $18 for a steak ($53 per person). I wouldn't return to Chops if these changes were put into effect. LetsGetWet! Posted March 19, 2014 #115 Share Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) Well, I just got a phone call from a woman in the "Executive Office" about my letter to Mr. Goldstein. I'm actually happy to report it sounds like they ARE listening to the feedback and criticism they've been getting. Here's what I was told: The baked potato is being added back to the menu The non-upcharged steak options are being expanded from 2 to 4. There will now be two filet options - 6 & 9 oz, and two sirloin options - 6 & 12 oz. The sauces which were no longer available are being made available again Red velvet cake is definitely on the menu I expressed my thanks that our concerns were being listened to and addressed. I said I'd still like to see the steaks include more than just filet & sirloin, as I had said in my letter. Also that I'd like to see the popular appetizers such as crab cakes being made available again. She said she couldn't promise anything, but they would continue to listen to customer input on the issue. All in all, more changes than I really expected to hear! Edited March 19, 2014 by LetsGetWet! crazyventures Posted March 19, 2014 #118 Share Posted March 19, 2014 I'm still not happy about the new Chops Grille menu changes. I'd probably get the 7 oz. fillet anyways but the new sides don't seem very appealing to me. Any new info re: Giovanni's Table changes?

Thanks, Great to hear about the baked potatoe and the sauces. Kind of surprises me that they do offer the 2 different sizes of steak though. Anytime we have tried to order one of the small ones the waiter pushes us to order the larger one.
critterchick Posted March 19, 2014 #120 Share Posted March 19, 2014 Great news:) Thanks for sharing. I've heard that the Red Velvet Cake is now made in-house. Ironic. A specialty restaurant waiter once told us that the reason for the extra $5 to dine in Chops vs. Portofino is that the Chops desserts are purchased from a vendor, while the Portofino ones were made in-house. My recollection is that Chops on Allure was $35 in January, but the old menu (we didn't eat there; too many other choices).

Kind of surprises me that they do offer the 2 different sizes of steak though. Anytime we have tried to order one of the small ones the waiter pushes us to order the larger one. Trouble is, they had done away with the large ones and were only offering a small one on Navigator. I had about decided that if I went back to Chops I was going to just be a rebel and order a pair of filets! :D
cruiseclues Posted March 19, 2014 #123 Share Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) When we we on the Grandeur of the Seas 10/26/2013...we ate at Giovanni's Table and it was absolutely outstanding. We would not order steak or a lamb chop there...but might be willing to have either elsewhere. Glad to see they are putting back the baked potato at Chops...and can't imagine what they were thinking...aren't tater tots in the frozen foods section of the supermarket and mostly oriented toward children?:eek::eek::eek: Edited March 19, 2014 by cruiseclues

Now I hope the quality of the Red Velvet Cake is as good or even better than the one they currently have. I love Fillet Mignon and sirloin steaks with a baked potato so that should fit my needs. Now one question I had is could I order two steaks for $35 one 6 ounce Fillet and one 6 ounce Sirloin like you can in the MDR? I feel that once you paid for the upcharge you should be able to get seconds of any item:D. Thanks for the update.
ryano Posted March 19, 2014 #125 Share Posted March 19, 2014 (edited) aren't tater tots in the frozen foods section of the supermarket and mostly oriented toward children?:eek::eek: Yes! I actually like tater tots! They are great with burgers or sloppy joes. Ive even had them in the Windjammer for breakfast. Not something I would expect to see in a "high end" steakhouse though or even a Longhorn for that matter :o:cool: Even the thought of taking away the baked potato is not a good decision. IMHO, a steakhouse isnt a steakhouse if it doesnt offer a baked potato. Edited March 19, 2014 by ryano
