Should I Dare to Try Norwegian?

To everyone who has submitted their feedback. Thank you. I value all opinions. As I mentioned above. We have chosen a aft penthouse suite. I believe we are in 10166 on Jade. The time of year was crucial. My wife could only do the Month of May. We love the That Adriatic and med in May. We did 7 day cruise in 07 and now we are doing 14 day b2b. So some of the ports we have been to and there are some new ones for my wife. I travel for a living and have been everywhere in the world. All the ports on this cruise I have visited; but this cruise is for my wife and not me. We have cruise Allure of the Seas; and although it's big and beautiful we wanted a little smaller type ship. I know Epic will be in Europe next year, but again; her itinerary is the same as the one we did in 09. So there you have it. It's Freestyle cruising for this guy and his gal. I will give it a try and who knows, we may book another freestyle cruise when I retire

Can you please explain Freestyle cruising and how it pertains to the different restaurants and MDR onboard. Am I under the assumption that you can eat anytime you want and reservations and dress codes are not needed? Is Freestyle always good or are there any negatives? Thanks for helping me understand.

I have only sailed Princess and Azamara and NCL has me intrigued.

Thanks,

Ron

Freestyle means that there are no assigned dining times, and no assigned seats. It also means that the dress code is significantly more relaxed than what you are accustomed to. In the MDRs you can simply dine whenever you choose, no reservations are required. The aft dining room will require pants at dinner, however the mid-ship dining room will permit shorts at dinner. Flip flops are not permitted at dinner in either dining room. Most people dress in resort casual in both dining rooms.

Once or twice during the sailing, they will have "Norwegian's Night Out" and there will be photographers set up all over the atrium for photos. On these nights you will see more people dressed up than on other nights, but you will see some dress up on the other nights as well.

At the specialty restaurants reservations are suggested, but you will discover that you can often just walk up and request a table. If they are not full, they will happily accommodate you. On many of the ships there are tv screens all around the ship which will show you how busy each dining venue is for each 30-minute time slot throughout the evening.

Freestyle is just that. You are free to dine where and when you wish, with whom, and dressed in whatever fashion you are comfortable. It's delightful.

Hi, does the Norwegian Star have the tv screens showing for the dining rooms info? Thanks.

Thanks for that great explanation WaldosPepper. The more people chime in the more I'm going to enjoy being on NCL. After all, I started this three to find out why people liked sailing NCL. Now I am beginning to find out
