Get dropped off at taxi stand across the road at NYC pier?

Last time we cruised out of NYC there was a huge line of taxis/buses trying to drop off passengers at the cruise terminal at the Manhattan Pier. Can we just get the taxi to drop us off across the street where you grab cabs when your cruise is over? If so what would be the instructions we should give to the cabbie?

12th Avenue at the corner of West 48th Street, on the northbound side of the Avenue (many still called it the "Old West Side Highway) where there is a Taxi Stand, across from Pier 88.

 

This will work whether you are coming from Penn Station, Grand Central Terminal (Metro North) or Port Authority Bus Terminal/Time Square around 42nd. Street) or downtown (Wall Street/City Hall) Manhattan. Just in case it's a newbie taxi driver, also tell him/her it's the Manhattan Cruise Terminal and that you wanted to get dropped off across the street, instead of going around. If you arrive early enough in the mid/late morning - no later than 10 or 10:15 AM, you might be able to catch a porter dropping off disembarking pax with luggage at the taxi stand. Otherwise, wait for the green traffic lights, walk across & take the giant elevator up to 2nd. level and checked the suitcases and proceed inside for security screening & checking-in.

I aleays tell my roll calls to drop across the street-walk across the street to the Long shoremen and drop off your bags-Tip them well and go up elevator Start Vacation!!! Best way!!:)
