No Passport Cruising

I'm not telling

Hi, Hope this isn't a really daft question. If I am from the UK sailing from the UK on a British Isles cruise do I need a passport? I've heard Yes (because some cruises include Dublin) and No as long as you don't get of the ship in Southern Ireland.

Thanks for any info.

You need to show your passport at the cruise terminal when you check in. And you need to put your passport number in your Voyage Personaliser before your trip so that the cruise line can issue you with a ticket.

The following is taken from Cunard's website:

A passport is required for all of our voyage itineraries. This is a requirement of the countries that you will visit on your holiday. You will not be able to embark the ship without a passport.

So presumably even if you don't intend getting off the ship, the ship itself is still in foreign waters.

you dont normally need a passport to go to Republic of Ireland from the UK unless flying if you go on the ferry. However that said you do need one when going on any cruise leaving from the UK even people who work in the ports checking in passengers have to have a passport (ive got a friend who used to do this for a living) as you are entering a customs/security area. SO the answer is absolutely YES few years ago three days before our mini cruise to cobh one of our travelling companions discovered her passport was missing and she phoned up the cruiseline to be told no passport no cruise thankfully she found it I may have had to strangle her if she hadn't as we would have all been refused boarding

one more thing no such thing as a daft question just one you dont know the answer to :)
