Ramzister Posted March 12, 2014 #2 Share Posted March 12, 2014 The last time we were there, we took a taxi out front direct to Orient Beach for about $7 a person. There, we rented loungers and an umbrella with 2 drinks for $20.00. Had a great time.
caribsun Posted March 12, 2014 #3 Share Posted March 12, 2014 Go on your own via a shared taxi, walk the beach and all the beach clubs have a sign with their offerings. Pick the area and club that suits your needs.:)
8675309Jenny Posted March 12, 2014 Author #4 Share Posted March 12, 2014 so it is better to take a taxi than any NCL provided shuttle or whatever other options are available? do I need any paper work of some sort to prove I have already paid? =========================== my getaway to do: watch the fireworks go to the magic show play for free in the casino ride the waterslides
VideoTech Posted March 12, 2014 #5 Share Posted March 12, 2014 You might want to pose this question (and search) on the appropriate "Ports of Call" board.

TrumpyNor Posted March 12, 2014 #7 Share Posted March 12, 2014 (edited) so it is better to take a taxi than any NCL provided shuttle or whatever other options are available? do I need any paper work of some sort to prove I have already paid? I did the Orient Beach excursion through NCL (I think it was called "Orient Beach Rendevouz") in January 2013, and if I should do that again, I would go on my own. We were a rather large group, and the sunbeds that were "reserved" for us was in the back row - even though the majority of sunbeds in front of us were free. It also seemed like the administration at the particular part of the beach that was for the excursion (called "Waikiki") were not prepared for our arrival, it was a lot of confusion before we finally got any sunbeds. Some of the group almost started fighting over the sunbeds available... If you go on your own, you are free to choose which part of the beach to stay at, some parts are nicer than others. :) Finally I would just say that usually I book all my excursions through NCL out of convenience, and usually I am content with the quality - but not this one.... jdvmd Posted March 13, 2014 #8 Share Posted March 13, 2014 You can definitely do Orient Beach on your own. When you get off the ship, continue toward the exit. There will be signs posted for the taxis. These are shared and the prices are posted and regulated. You can also arrange a time with your driver to take you back. When you get to the beach, there will be various beach clubs, some cost more than others. Just look at the lounge chairs - if there are full, these WERE the cheaper places. Some even include a drink. You want to stay to the left as the right side is where the nudists resorts are. You can walk over there, however. No cameras.
Jenjer Posted March 13, 2014 #9 Share Posted March 13, 2014 Do it on your own. Its easy and safe. Just get a taxi you will most likely share it with other people. They like to fill up their taxis to save time and money since Orient Bay is across the island. The earlier you go like 9 am the closer to the water you are. I think they open at around 9 or 10 its island time man so don't go before that. Remember to leave with plenty of time to get back to the ship you have to cross the island and one accident can really back up traffic. There are lots of bars with food and bathrooms. You rent the chairs the price depends on how early and busy they are. The closer to club Orient (naked part) the cheaper they are. Bring lots of sunblock lots of sunblock and reapply often. 8675309Jenny Posted March 13, 2014 Author #14 Share Posted March 13, 2014 enjoy. word of caution. never die with more than one book of matches in your jeans pocket. something not nice happens when one book slides inside another and the striker board rub across the match heads. ouch at 70 mph can be very un-fun! mellygo Posted March 13, 2014 #16 Share Posted March 13, 2014 We had a private guide who took us to Mako Beach to watch a KLM flight come in directly over our heads. Then she took us around the island, and we ended up in Orient Beach. Lovely day!
