Thanks, we sail her next Sat, hope the fog is all gone away by then...

Doug

It seems that this Captain has learned that when there is fog here it USUALLY rolls in before dawn and if he arrives earlier he can avoid being delayed. I say usually as fog can roll in early evenings at times. But usually it is more of a morning event.

We are aboard right now...no fog in sight, but there was a collision in the channel and we can't leave today. More info to be given before 8 am tomorrow.
Well, that will make for a very calm sea day for you. ;)

Hope we don't have issues next Saturday when we board.

HE explicitly said he was coming in early last night to ensure we got in before the fog appeared...of course a ship crash has them stuck in port until the sunk barge is out of the way.

At approximately 12:35 p.m., watchstanders at Coast Guard Sector Houston/Galveston received a call from the captain of the 585-foot bulk carrier Summer Wind, reporting a collision between the Summer Wind and a barge, containing 924,000 gallons of fuel oil, towed by the motor vessel Miss Susan.

The motor vessel Miss Susan was transiting from Texas City to Bolivar at the time of the collision. Kirby Inland Marine, owner of the motor vessel Miss Susan and the barges, activated its emergency response plan immediately and is working in a unified response with the Coast Guard and the Texas General Land Office, which are on scene.

A sheen of oil has been reported on the water, but the quantity of product released is unknown at this time. The six crew members of the motor vessel Miss Susan are all accounted for and are in stable condition.

Marine traffic in the Houston Ship Channel from the Intracoastal Waterway to lighter buoy 32 has been temporarily suspended for the safety of the responders.

And to prove that the local newspaper is devoid of all the facts:

"The closing of the ship channel also delayed to sailing of the Princess Cruise ship scheduled to leave Galveston on Saturday."

This is way more of a problem for Houston than the Fog! :o

Barge is leaking oil. This will get lots of publicity since Monday marks the 25th anniversary of the Exxon Valdez spill off the coast of Alaska.

The U.S. Coast Guard said the Houston Ship Channel is currently closed to traffic due to the incident and an assessment is underway.

Just heard on 13 it was second SC crash this week. What's up with the SC pilots? Glad we got in at 2am and debarked slowly but without any issues.

We got off this morning too and thought disembarkation was smooth and fast. We had Princess transfers to IAH, we were at the terminal, checked in and through security by 10am. We were way early for our 12:52pm flight.

I think Captain Dino has done a great job getting the CB in and out, where it is in his control, with the conditions Houston presents. The weather in Houston last Saturday and today on our return was not good.

I gather later groups debarked more on time. First group was fifteen minutes late getting off ship.
