2015 Canada/New England cruises

Thanks. We enjoyed our 15-day east coast northbound so much we're thinking of doing it again. We would do the southbound in the fall, but it doesn't stop at 3 of the ports we want to see again (Newport, Bar Harbor, and Charleston). :(

Interestingly the Veendam is only offering one stand alone cruise to Bermuda in June of 2015. The other two June departures are packaged as 14 day Canada/New England/Bermuda Collector's Cruises. I wonder if, at a later date HAL will allow them to be split into separate seven day cruises.

Now this was yesterday that I discovered that fact. It may have changed overnight. It happens.

Weird, Eurodam is dropping Bar Harbor for Rockport. HAL really needs to stop the shorter Sydney stops, they're essentially a tease.

I noticed the short time in Sydney and thought it was such a waste. There is really nothing in Sydney but the Fortress of Louisbourg is a national treasure. You really need most of a day to visit.

If you rent a car it is about a 45 minute drive and then after you buy your ticket at the visitor centre you have to wait for a shuttle bus to take you out to the fortress. This procedure is done in reverse when you have finished and it eats into your available time. Take into consideration the time it takes to rent and return a car and you have very little time to spend at the fortress. Not worth going.

Don't even think about the Cabot Trail in such a short time period.

The Bell Museum in Baddeck would be doable but you would always be anxiously watching the clock.

For the price HAL charges for these cruises one would expect to have enough time in port to make the stop worthwhile.

We have timeshares in Rockland at the Samoset Resort so are quite familiar with the Rockport area. It is very beautiful and I would actually not mind a stop there as opposed to Bar Harbor. It is far less commercialised and has some lovely scenic areas nearby. For car buffs there is the Owl's Head Transportation Museum which is a surprisingly wonderful place for such a small area. You can spend hours there.

Nearby Camden is a charming place to wander around and there are hiking trails in the Camden Hills. You can drive to the top of Mt Battie and take in a breathtaking view.

Rockland also boasts an Andrew Wyeth gallery.

I wish the eurodam had more than one cruise in addition to the repositioning cruise. We would need to fly to New York the day of the cruise.

Really disappointed with the New England/Canada Cruises that are on offer. Had planned 10 day Colours of New England and Canada out of Quebec but not happening now. Only 7 day cruises missing some of the ports.:mad:

Have to completely rethink September, 2015 now.

The 14 day Canada - New England sailing on May 31 this year was originally offered both as a 14 day and as two seven day cruises. Then they only offered it as two seven day trips. Then they brought back the collectors cruise option, offered at a tidy savings. The process seems unpredictable. Anymore, when we see a cruise we want at a price we are willing to pay, we book it and hope the price will drop. Then I check prices every morning until final payment.

Canada/New England is on my "to do" list, but I've already decided it's not going to be with HAL. Several cruise lines offer similar itineraries for much lower fares. HAL is always overpriced compared to other cruise lines, and I'm not sure why.

The "Canada/New England" is one of two possibilities I'm considering for spring 2015. I'm rather surprised at the fares for verandah cabins & suites, compared with what is being charged for this spring. I suppose it's better to wait for the sales that are offered after final payment date.
