Booking question..What would YOU do?

Ok so heres my situation. I have been on 3 cruises with NCL. We gamble quit a bit of the ship, so last year we booked through NCL Casino at Sea because we got a good discount. This year, I could book with them again and get 20% off. It would give a "BX" category balcony. She explained this means I would not get my room number till a week before the cruise, and it could be in a less desirable part of the ship (all the way front, or back, not mid) BUT she also said there's a possibly of getting upgraded to a mini-suit. If I book with a normal NCL rep (not CAS) I will be paying about the same, but will have more of a say where my room will be. Do I take the chance with the "BX" category that I may be upgraded, or go with the known? Thanks for any help!

If you're looking to book during a peak cruising time then I would NOT go with the BX, if it's during an off peak time then I'd take my chances ~

Ask your-self if you would be OK in a hulled balcony in the bow by the anchor .;)

You didn't say what ship you were booking, so I don't know if what I'm about to say applies to all of the ships with a category BX.

 

But...we just booked the Getaway. I was trying to decide if I wanted to book the cheapest category and was thinking about going with the BX. I did see that it was all the way up front and I think it only had like 2 or 4 of these cabins to begin with. But we ended up getting an awesome deal and several upgrades and took it and ended up with a mid-ship mini-suite.

 

AFTER we booked it, I started paying closer attention to the room details. I noticed that the BX room was 310 sq ft compared to the BA mini suite we booked, which is only 239 (or something like that). Now I really wished I would have stuck with the BX category and got more bang for less buck.

 

With this being said, make sure you look at the square footage and see if there's a difference. I guess it also depends on if you can cruise on the front of the ship. We did our last cruise and absolutely loved it. :)

Well it really wouldn't matter much since you're docked 3 nights and you're only dropping anchor once. Plus the objective of Bermuda is to see the island, so cabin category really might not be that big of an issue. ;)

Sorry, I have looked at so many blue print plans over the last couple of weeks my head is spinning.

 

I was talking about MX and MB. Both are mini-suites with balconies, but the lower category is bigger.

I really don't get it. You can book any category with CAS and get a discount. I have to believe the BX was offered as the cheapest option for you. If you want to pick a catagory call back and see how much it will be. Always less then booking direct with NCL.
