58Piano Posted April 2, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 2, 2014 Has anyone had a problem with mosquitos? Do I need to wear long pants and long sleeve shirt. And put on repellant with DEET?
Life is Good Cruising Posted April 3, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 3, 2014 Has anyone had a problem with mosquitos? Do I need to wear long pants and long sleeve shirt. And put on repellant with DEET? IMO long pants and long sleeve shirt is not necessary. Been to Saint Martin twice this year, brought Deet with me but never used it and never saw any mosquitos. I am aware of the virus, chikungunya. Don't worry, enjoy your vacation.
Conwaycruiser Posted April 6, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 6, 2014 I agree, no problem. I was there in February and took insect repellent but didn't use it. I'm going back in May and probably won't take it.
kennedyd Posted April 6, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 6, 2014 We were there 3 weeks ago and didn't see any problem. Toured both sides of the island
OCruisers Posted April 6, 2014 #5 Share Posted April 6, 2014 We were on both sides in January (2014) and had no problems at all. We weren't there after dark. LuLu ~~~
laedw Posted April 6, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 6, 2014 I was there recently in March. Took a tour on the French side -- did not have a problem with the mosquitoes. I did not even see a mosquito in spite of the off and on rain showers. Later walked around on the Dutch side again no problem. I too was concerned about the mosquito problem so I had sprayed DEET prior to the tour. I did not need it.

joannelj Posted April 15, 2014 #8 Share Posted April 15, 2014 What time of year are mosquitoes the worst? It seems to me as the weather gets hotter, they will get worse. I'm going in May - just wondering if I should be more concerned than folks who have gone earlier in the year. Thanks, JoAnne
Life is Good Cruising Posted April 15, 2014 #9 Share Posted April 15, 2014 In all the years going to St Martin, I have never seen any mosquitos. Here is the latest update from the CDC. http://wwwnc.cdc.gov/travel/notices/watch/chikungunya-saint-martin
