Before my first cruise I worried for months about my wardrobe choices. During my first cruise I realized that people were on vacation and the only person who even gave me a second glance was my husband :-) On my next cruises I enjoyed wearing what I felt was appropriate inaccordance to the suggested attire, and not so much wanting to impress other cruisers.

I think people give second glances instinctively to anyone who looks out of place or wearing something that brings attention to themselves. The woman wearing the floor length red sequined dress on anything but a formal night. The man wearing cut offs and a tank top to dinner on any night. The teen in the mini skirt so short that it's obvious what color her panties are. I don't think this is wrong or rude, simply human nature.
