porrah Posted April 7, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 7, 2014 DH and I both completed our on line surveys after our return from Eurodam a week ago. I didn't know what he said and vice versa. Last night we got a follow up phone call. I managed to work into the conversation that the casino got none of my money because of the smoke smell, cigar smell from two balconies down, unable to hear in the piano bar because of the casino noises, poor set up in the lido, luke warm entrees, and that I was a member of cruise critic so I know that many others share my smoking concerns. Lest you get the wrong idea, of course I said some good stuff too! I'm doing my bit to get the smoking policy changed. I know some people have said they will not cruise HAL again until this happens. FredT Posted April 7, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 7, 2014 First off, a disclaimer. I dont smoke... never have. I think you are fighting windmills. For every person out there who has a "major" issue with the HAL smoking policy, there are probably two smokers out there who would go elsewhere if they were prohibited from smoking. It's all economics.
Cruising-along Posted April 7, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 7, 2014 I think you meant you got a call from HAL, not X (Celebrity) ? Glad you voiced your concerns, and glad you got the call too!

kenorus Posted April 7, 2014 #6 Share Posted April 7, 2014 We to were on that cruise. We enjoyed it but we enjoyed the niew Amsterdam much better. I did the survey also and had said the same food was just so so this time. Lunch buffet was better than the dinners. Annoying drums at the back pool every day. Also the drink package I really commented on that. If they limit the drink package to 15 a day why are they making people in the room all take it. If you want to get a drink for someone on that card that just takes away a drink from yourself, just doesn't make sense. Hense princess cruise line just changed there policy as I was just on the phone with them. They listened to their passengers and changed it to just whoever wants it in the room can have it!! So we have now booked a princess cruise with my daughter all 3 in a room and only my husband has to have it. If we want a drink we will purchase it. I told them we would likely not sail with them again unless they change this policy!

Oops, senior moment, of course I meant HAL. I'd just been on the Celebrity boards reading about them going to e surveys, and my brain took a while to catch up. I told them we would likely not sail with them again unless they change this policy! I would be shocked if HAL changed the policy. Of course everyone (over age 21) in a cabin must purchase a package. Otherwise every couple will buy one, but two will drink. I don't see any advantage for HAL to do this. Years ago HAL had an unlimited Soda Card. You were supposed to only use it yourself. I personally watched family after family pass the same card around and around. That perk is now gone - as I had predicted it would.
kenorus Posted April 7, 2014 #10 Share Posted April 7, 2014 Yes if it was unlimited that would be one thing but hals beverage package is not unlimited. You are limited to 15 drinks per day wether alcoholic or not. Princess has now switched to what celebrity does. So yes you may get a few that cheats the system but I personally would not bring my daughter on hal if she had to get the card as she does not drink. And if you want to share your 15 a drink a day card that means less for you!! I am sure hal will follow suit.
Host Walt Posted April 8, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 8, 2014 (edited) The topic of this thread is a telephonic follow-up of a survey taken by HAL. The survey includes a question about smoking. Please do not cause this thread to become yet another smoking thread. Thanks. Edited April 8, 2014 by Host Walt

I would love the drinks package to be changed, we are travelling with 2 small children so when one drinks the other doesn't. No point in basically wasting one so we will buy none and chances are we will be more conservative with our drink spending so HAL will actually lose out. Just a quick not on the smoking, as a non smoker I do not want it on the balconies as I can't choose to get away from the smell but am happy for other designated areas for the smokers, I think that is a win/win for all
