Celebrity good cruise line for children??

Not if they don't know any different ;). Our now-teens have been on 3 cruises -- all with Celebrity. They have loved each one (my 14-year-old actually cried when the cruise was over). The staff, even for the teens in the X Club, do an amazing job. My kids adored Lisa (on the Summit).

Like someone else mentioned, my husband and I prefer Celebrity over some of the other brands mentioned, so we sail on Celebrity. :)

That is so very true. What you have not yet ever experienced you will never know what your missing.

The bartenders don't work on Celebrity to avoid children. Get real.

Not so sure about that statement.

Since when do kids tip bartenders? If I was a cruise ship bartender I would choose Celebrity over Disney any day.

The bartenders don't work on Celebrity to avoid children. Get real. The only reason people work on cruise ships is for the $$$. None of service people enjoy shipboard life or the customers. The cast members and cruise directors do it for travel perks but the majority of the crew are simply there for your money and nothing else. So if you say you hate all the kids- they agree with you. If you love kids-they agree with you. Everything is always what the passengers want.

I took it to mean that she chose to work on Celebrity versus another cruise line. She was the Molecular bartender and a little girl went up and asked for a soda....Molecular only serves the drinks on the menu, nothing else so she sent the girl away. And I didn't provoke her with a comment about liking or hating kids. Still funny AND REAL!

These threads always end up being slams at kids on cruises. Not only was I a kid on a cruise ship 35 years ago, I have two who have traveled on many cruise lines and hang out with other kids- not at the Martini bar. My kids aren't in the bars at all but on holiday cruises- the whole family congregates in the lounges. It is what it is and most of the kids are bored not nuisances. I think kids in bars are the exception and not the rule. But you would have to anticipate kids on a holiday cruise. In fact, most grandparents want to be with their kids and grandchildren for the holidays. Why anyone would go on a mainstream cruise during the holidays and be shocked by kids needs to examine their vacation planning ahead of time. Go on a kid free cruise line if it's going to bother you or go a different week.

Slow down I love kids too.

The bartender made this statement about preferring to serve adults and this is why he works for Celebrity not Disney. Get over it.

We're at the grandparent stage, so no small children to take on a cruise. And because our parenting days are behind us we traveling when the kids are in school. Everywhere we go is great, because those kids are in school. hose are the perfect days for us.

On the 2 Celebrity cruises I have been on I've noticed that the children are so well behaved, with their parents and with the Kid Consolers. It's also very rare to see them. When you do they are with their parents leaving the ship or being quietly escorted to and from the Kids Club. Once I saw a parade of them in the evening wearings masked that they made. They were walking with Consolers They roared making monster sounds, but in no way annoyed any adults near by.

I say bring you kids. Especially if they are well mannered.:D

That is how most bartenders and servers feel.

My kids (10 and 11) have sailed X twice and RC once. They prefer the kids club and amenities on X over the flow rider, ice rink etc of RC. IMHO Celebrity is a great fit for families as long as your kids don't expect those activities or character dinners.

On our last Celebrity cruise which was a Christmas cruise on Equinox, there were almost 600 children since schools were off. One bartender groaned and said to me "There are 600 kids on this cruise. There's normally only a few. The reason I work on Celebrity is because I don't want to have to deal with kids."

Had to laugh at that one!

I think that was pretty nervy of that bartender to say that. I have worked in the service industry and I understand the frustration but I would never have crossed the line and expressed anything like that to a customer about other customers regardless of the situation. The anti-child sentiment is really irksome. That being said, I would like to offer my perspective on the situation as a mom who just traveled on the Summit with two kids (ages 10 and 13). First of all, my kids are very well-behaved and used to going on grown-up vacations. This was their first cruise. They probably would have preferred all the bells and whistles of RCCL and Norwegian, but I chose Celebrity because we were traveling with my elderly, wheelchair bound mom and I wanted a more elegant atmosphere for her. I figured since the kids had never been on a cruise before they wouldn't know the difference, that they would be happy just to be on a cruise and wouldn't be expecting rock climbing walls and waterslides. Well, wouldn't you know - when I sat down and told the kids I had booked the cruise, the very first thing my 13 year old said was "Are there rock climbing walls and waterslides?" I kid you not. They had seen the commercials. I explained that those kind of cruises were not our style and we needed something nice for Grandma, but even so, the very first day by the pool he asked me "Where's all the fun stuff?" - meaning the waterslides, etc! In the end, my kids did not participate in any of the kids club or teen club activities, although I tried to encourage them. Other kids I saw seemed to be having a blast. My older son made a friend, but my younger son had no interest in meeting new kids and just wanted to hang out with me. I am not sure about other ships, but one problem with the Summit is that there is only one pool and one hot tub that allows kids and it was always very crowded, so my kids did not spend much time at all in the pool. My older son enjoyed finding a quite spot to read, but my younger son complained that the cruise was too crowded. This was a 4th of July cruise with 600+ kids. I think they actually would have been happier on an off-season cruise with mostly adults, as this is how we usually travel.

We have cruised with our toddler when she was 9 months (Liberty of the Seas), 17 months (Mariner of the Seas) and 22 months (Solstice). RCL definitely has better programmes for the kids (their toy lending programme is good) and also were better catered for children below 2. On Celebrity, if your child is below 3, there is virtually nothing for them. That said, our toddler enjoyed herself on all three cruises; in fact she did not want to leave the ship when we were done last week. She's generally v well-behaved (phew) and we have eaten with her at the buffet, MDR, in Murano for lunch, Tuscan Grille for dinner and Bistro on Five for lunch and have had no problems. We also took her to the shows and she thoroughly enjoyed herself for the most part (especially during the Broadway revue), although the dancers in goat costumes during the Cirque style show scared her initially. I would not hesitate to bring her on a cruise again on either line. Have fun!

Even as an adult I could possibly say there are times I would wish I could enjoy my cruise without the presence of certain other cruisers whether they be under 3 or over 83 or anywhere in between! Bad or inappropriate behaviour is not restricted to youth!! But hey I'm on vacation and admittedly so are they, we have both paid for the privilege of being there and neither of us any more rights to exclusivity (and let's avoid talking suite perks!!) of the ship so let's just agree cruisers come in all ages, shapes and sizes and even attitudes. We just need to focus on enjoying OUR vacation, not theirs [emoji12]

When I had little children and cruised with them I enjoyed being around them and around other children they made friends with.

Now that our children have the left the "roost" I enjoy cruising with my wife and not so much with children. I now cruise when children are in school.

I whole heartily encourage families to take cruises and enjoy it with THEIR children.

I truly do not understand the vitriol written here recently....

Sorry, you must have had some really bad experiences with folks being rude to your children. Not everyone is the same, I've personally never seen any other passenger be rude or complain to or about the children onboard any of my cruises.....maybe I'm just lucky that I've never encountered it.

I have never encountered it either, and I have sailed on more than 30 cruises (25+ on Celebrity), bringing my son from the time he was 3 years old until he was fully grown, and my granddaughter as well when she was very young. I am sure there are a handful of folks out there who are just plain rude, as there are in any large group of people. They come in all age groups, all sizes, all state of "tan-ness", all levels of Captains Club (or not), and all countries. I guess I am just lucky as well to not encounter it on the more than 20 cruises I took with my son when he was a child.

I've always thought of Celebrity as a cruise line that caters to adults, and Royal Caribbean as the place for families with kids. Does Celebrity have a kids program? Yes, but you won't find a lot of activities like the flow rider and putt-putt course. We cruised on Royal Caribbean when we took our daughter, and started cruising Celebrity when it was just us. Will Celebrity take your money and allow you on board? Absolutely, but your kids will probably be happier on Royal Caribbean. It doesn't make me some kind of bad person because I prefer to dine without someone's child screaming and running around the dining room. And yes, I know it's the parents who are at fault. Some parents will just never comprehend that what they think is cute when their kids do it, is just annoying to the rest of us who have raised our kids, and are ready for an adult atmosphere. It that makes me pretentious, then so be it.

Wow! You really think you can tell people where their kids will be happier:cool:? Problem is YOU think about X cruises as an adult and you can think what you want but X is not adult cruise line . I am like you don’t like to dine with running kids around me, that’s a reason I don’t take my kids to Royal )))

we just got back from a cruise...3 kids, ages 8, 6 & 2. the older kids had a GREAT time in the fun Factory. we did not encounter any rude people, just the exact opposite.

the crew was great with the kids and extremely happy to see them, as many of them left their kids at home while they work on the ship.

Our family did a cruise tour in Alaska with Princess a couple of years ago. I don't even recall seeing any other kids on the ship. My girls (ages 12 and 14 at the time) interacted with us, their grandparents and the other adults, did puzzles, played board games and cards. They became quite attached to some of the other passengers. They enjoyed each other's company (not something they normally do), played ping pong and shuffleboard.

On Disney, the youngest one headed for the teen clubs every chance she got and the oldest one just hung around with us. Next summer the oldest will head for the spa every chance she gets...

I guess the moral is kids can make their own fun, even without rock climbing walls. But if a rock climbing wall is available.....

Have noticed quite a few of my posts have vanished! !! I did not think I said anything out of order!! Can one of the.moderatora let me know please?

I am not a moderator but I can tell you that sometimes a post will be deleted because it directly references, or replies to, a post that was pulled because it was inappropriate. Perhaps that is what happened?

Quite a few have been removed. If I have breached any rules then fair enough, but they have not informed me of this so won't know what I said to avoid this happening again. I do not think I said anything out of line.

I think they removed ones that seemed argumentative and attacking. From what I recall though, yours were neither (you just got your feathers ruffled a bit by someone else's comments), but might have gotten mixed up with the wrong ones by association.
