Never again

We are only able to cruise during school breaks- Christmas wee, President's week in Feb., Spring break and summer. Most expensive and crowded times of the year. Yes, there are tons of kids on the ships, and hottubs are jammed with them. However, we saw the same rowdy kid behavior when we were on RCCL this past Christmas. It is not just CCL - it is the parents who want their "free time" and let the kids run rampant. I do applaud RCCL, as the have a curfew for kids under 17 which IS enforced.

So the curfew is enforced on RCCL, but what about the day/evening behaviors you mention? Are they able to get kids from the hot tubs meant for adults?

I gave the kids "the grandma" look and then said "I know who their parents are, just wait till I tell them what their son has been doing in the elevator!"

I could smell the fear in them!! When ever they seen me the rest of the cruise they would go the other way!:D

Nice.

I shall remember that one for my next cruise. :D

You think Spring Break is bad......Never, ever cruise during Holy Week. Never in my life have I been on a ship (or anywhere else) where there were so many rude, disrespectful, children. And No adult supervision. I have vented to Carnival by both an e-mail and the survey sent post cruise. We were told there was over 1000 kids on this cruise. I will continue to cruise Carnival but will be mindful of the time of year we book. This was on the Carnival Magic out of Galveston.

I feel your pain but Holy week is spring break. AND I don't think many Christians would cruise that week unless that was the only time they could.

We were on a Celebrity cruise and saw a couple of people on board with Ash Wednesday marks on their foreheads .

I am not sure if there was an organized service.

Just off the Pride 04/13 sailing. The ship was mobbed with kids! We did the same cruise last early November and I could have counted the kids on that ship on one hand.

Quick story- during this past cruise I and another woman passenger were using the stairs to descend down several decks. A group of about 12 "tweens" came barreling down past us. One kid decided that when he got halfway down each stairway he would take a big leap to the bottom. So they fly by us and eventually disappear. When I got close to my destination I stopped halfway down the last stairs and took a big leap as well. The woman behind me got a big laugh out of it and fortuneately I did not break my ankle! :D

I only went on one cruise in August and we will not go again during peak times. It isn't that I don't like children, but I dislike the lack of supervision that seems to be inevitable on these cruises. During this particular cruise I was knocked down by a large teenage boy running through the casino, waited for elevators that were filled with children "pushing buttons", and when I asked a child to please quit doing cannonballs in the hot tub, I was yelled at by a rather inebriated woman daring to speak to her child! There were other incidents as well, just as there were also very polite, positive, well behaved children.

Did this ruin my cruise.....no way! Is there anything CCL could do about it? Probably not, so I choose to sail at times where the younger crowd is limited. Halloween is my favorite.

We were on the Magic the week of March 18th 2013. Cruise director said 1576 kids on board. She did not have to tell us, they were running everywhere. Comedian said Free Range Children on the boat. Like free range chicken. lol They were in the elevators pushing buttons all the time. I imagine the parents were in the serenity area away from them. lol We still had a fun cruise. Just know in March it is someones spring break. the whole state of OK was on board. It was their spring break.

Well then, you either weren't paying attention, or you were part of the problem. I've cruised over 40 times, and I assure you, I've seen more obnoxious behavior from adults than kids. Rushing elevators, butting in line at the buffet, running into people with their scooter, smoking in non-smoking areas, throwing lit cigarettes over the side (or throwing them on the deck and crushing them with their foot), stacking food up on trays like they're on their way to the electric chairs and then leaving most of it, fighting over deck chairs, chewing out a waiter because they didn't have HP sauce on board – the list is endless.

Children need to be taught how to behave; adults have no excuse.

AND children model what they see...

I saw adults dancing obscenely around the pool, including standing on top of sleeping people on deck chairs. I saw a 50ish couple having SEX during sail away in the hot tub. Cutting in line, dropping a plate of food and walking away, rushing elevators, smoking in non-smoking areas when specific KID activities were going on in that space, sitting in the "reserved" spots in the theatre and then being rude to the staff that asked them to move... the list is long.

I agree! We are in our early 50,s and have no children but kids on a cruise have never bothered us? Its their vacation too:) we stay away from the main pool and other areas they seem to congregate at and if they look like they are riding the elevators up and down I start pressing all the buttons when I get in:D:D:D

Cranky rude "The World Owes Me Something" Old people are much more of a pain on a cruise than kids:)

I agree with staying away from main pool where most kids congregate. One of the major flaws of the Breeze, in my opinion, is there is no adult pool. I love the Breeze, but not this feature.

Wow, you really sound angry. I don't deny I've seen a few of the things you mentioned, but what I said was, I don't have a problem with the adult behavior. And I am not part of the problem. I can deal with ignorant adult behavior, because there is not much anyone can do to change it. Kids, however, have parents on the ship who should be in control of them so they do not run wild and 1) annoy everyone who is trying to relax and 2) put themselves in danger.

I myself have children (so I'm not a child-hater), but have always made sure to keep them in line and discipline them when they did not behave. There is no reason for bad behavior from children OR adults...and I have seen plenty from both. With that said, when I go on vacation...I expect to enjoy myself. I enjoy kids very much...but I don't think they should be running around unsupervised if they can't behave. Yes...it's their parents vacation, BUT it is our vacation too and others should not have to tolerate bad behavior. It is a parents duty to raise their children and make sure they behave and be respectful of others. The cruise ship employees are not babysitters. Thank you to those that teach their children to behave and to have good manners! :)

I work in a high school with 1600 students, so I get to see all kinds of behavior from the kids and their parents (good & bad)...and a lot of self entitlement these days! I see a lot of kids talk extremely bad to their parents too. The one time my child talked back to me...was the only time they did it. I don't disrespect my kids and they are not to disrespect me or others as well.

My first cruise was last September after school was back in session, so there were not many kids on the cruise and most behaved very well. I only saw one little one that was climbing on the rails on stage (where the DJ was) with no parent in sight. My concern was that they were going to fall and injure themselves badly...so I asked them myself to get down so they didn't get hurt. My next cruise is on June 29th! Should I be scared? Hahaha! I plan on enjoying myself no matter what! Happy cruising, Cruisers! :)

It's not just on ship you see these careless parents, one cruise we had noticed the same children over and over again but they were not the problem the parents were. Actually heard the mom complaining because dad was supost to be watching and had gone off and left her to deal with them. The young girl came into the theater on night was up front upset because she was to meet her mom there of course she couldn't find her. So we asked a crew member we had talked to if she could stand on the stage to find her LOST MOM, because the little girl was not lost the mom was! The crew member ran with it and cheered up the little girl. Saw same mother trying to leave a very young boy sitting on a bench to wait for her and the daughter while they did the underground river again because he didn't want to! Luckily a park worker spotted this and told her no way was that going to happen. I think if your not supervising your children then you have no right to complain when someone says something to them you should have been there. I miss the railings instead of the solid glass that gets salt spray on it and hard to see clearly out to sea, but our first cruise I saw someone grap a toddler just as he squeezed between the railing so understand why ships have gone to the glass.

We have always purposely cruised while school is in session to avoid the kids. We don't have any, and while I don't hate kids buy any means, I don't want to listen to them being obnoxious on my vacation. But we have a 2015 cruise planned with several family and friends so we are going over thanksgiving:eek:

I am a bit worried but won't let it ruin my vacation. I'll just spend more time on my balcony.

I'm an obnoxious adult, but my parents were and still are, far from obnoxious. From where did I get it? ;)

I have always seen the adult hottubs policed by staff keeping the kids out on all the lines. Maybe I have just been lucky. I have learned to sail on ships that have dedicated adult areas. I love kids, having 2 grown ones of my own, and over 150 a day in the school I teach in. However, when on vacation I prefer not being "on duty" and feeling obligated to stop a behavior that may cause injury to themselves or others- especially when the parents are nearby and ignore what is going on. (though I do it anyway!)

Some people just turn out that way...no matter how great of a job their parents did raising them! :p

We were on this cruise too. We will never cruise the week of Easter again. We have cruised during summer, near Christmas & Holy Week last year. This one was by far the worst for wild kids.

Did anyone else see the 8-10 year old playing the cash claw game in the casino?? Security walked right by & did nothing. After about 10 adults just stood there staring, a casino host finally walked up & told him to leave. Kids sat in the walkways & staircases. Walked 4 across & wouldn't move out of the way. One day there were 5 kids in 2 of the glass elevators, sitting waving at each other as they rode up & down over & over.

We still had a good time, just won't ever cruise that week again.

I cruised on the Splendor a few years ago. There were two boys around 13/14 yrs old spitting off the balcony above the atrium. One of them hit one of the seats below and yelled "got it " by the time the bartender and security got there, they were long gone. They were also in the halls the night before we got off the ship, checking out the bags for unlocked ones. We put out ours but kept the door open so we could keep an eye on them.

That is one week I will not cruise. I was on the Liberty April 5,14 and there where lots of kids (teens)on that sailing actually more than expected but I still had a great time!!!. I guess it is live and learn.
