The lowest would be 120 Euro, but 150 is probably more realistic. I would absolutely negotiate a flat fee before getting in the cab.

The train is easy - all train ticket machines have language options including English and it costs 9 euro return ticket from port to Rome and back.

 

It takes about half an hour - trains are frequent and you will beat all the buses or taxis on the busy roads.

A one-way ticket to Rome on a regionale train is 5 euro, while the BIRG costs 12 euro (return trip plus use of metros and buses in Rome all day).

 

The train takes closer to an hour into Rome, although there are four stations. You may be better off exiting the train at San Pietro (for the Vatican) or getting off at Ostiense and changing to the metro (for the Colosseum) than going all the way to the main station at Termini.

Thank you for the information. I think I will try to book a shared shuttle. We are seniors and have a few pieces of luggage and so we are not sure we want to try lifting luggage onto a train.

Several years ago we had planned on taking the train but one of us was under the weather so we opted for a taxi...€170 yikes :eek:.

Try to share a transfer van with some of your roll callers. Very easy to organise and will cost about 25-30 euro's per person.

We used RomeCabs. Found them through CC here and they are very used to cruisers.

Does anyone know where the main bus station is in Rome and the nearest train station we get off at.As we will be catching the train from the port and then the bus from Rome to Siena

its the main train station in Rome....its a main transportation hub and there are a lot of buses in front...never taken one of those but its a place to start checking..

googled it...bus station for sienna is roma tibertina station...not termini...but still a train station too

went on the trenitalia website...looks like all the trains but one make you change trains...the one direct train is around 130 am.

 

hoping that somebody who has actually done this answers you
