SEAEDP Posted April 29, 2014 #1 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Just wondering...if I wanted to request Vegan meals, is that possible once I'm on the ship?
sail7seas Posted April 29, 2014 #2 Share Posted April 29, 2014 You should make the request in advance by contacting Ships Services and then speak with either the Dining Room Manager, one of his assistants or supervisors. HAL is well able to accommodate Vegan requests. 800-541-1576
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 29, 2014 #3 Share Posted April 29, 2014 From HAL's site: Special dietary needs, such as vegetarian, diabetic or gluten-free meals, are easily accommodated with advance requests. Kosher meals and a Health Conscious Dining option are also available. To arrange special meals, please contact the Ship Services Department at 1-800-541-1576 at least 90 days prior to departure. Mytime2014 Posted April 29, 2014 #4 Share Posted April 29, 2014 Just wondering...if I wanted to request Vegan meals, is that possible once I'm on the ship? I've been reading some of the posted menus and each one had vegetarian choices - that sound really good even for a non-vegetarian. I guess there is a difference in Vegan and vegetarian even tho I don't know what it is Look on halfacts and if you look for a westerdam review from March by the Priesmans you will see some samples. The review is awesome and I wish I could remember where it is on this board. You're going on the Westerdam aren't you? Please post your experiences - I'll be following you in July. Have fun!!! I guess there is a difference in Vegan and vegetarian even tho I don't know what it is Some vegetarians consume dairy and/or eggs (ovo-lacto) or fish. Vegans eat no animal products. "If it had a face or a mother or came from something with a face or a mother" it is not consumed.

Oceanwench Posted April 30, 2014 #11 Share Posted April 30, 2014 When I have ordered from the vegetarian/vegan menu, I had to give my order the night before. My experience was that the menu items sounded way better than they tasted! I am not a vegetarian, but I don't eat red meat or shellfish. I usually order the "gourmet vegetarian" meals on the nightly menus in the MDR.
cruz chic Posted April 30, 2014 #12 Share Posted April 30, 2014 I did a vegetarian meal one night on my Westy cruise. I thought it was quite good but it would have been nicer if it wasn't lukewarm. That said, all the food was lukewarm.
Krazy Kruizers Posted April 30, 2014 #13 Share Posted April 30, 2014 Do they have one for Gluten free ? I am not certain -- but you can call Ship Services and ask them -- 1-800-541-1576.
ksqueak Posted April 30, 2014 #14 Share Posted April 30, 2014 Do they have one for Gluten free ? Yes, they can do gluten free. You would place your order the evening prior. I traveled a few months ago with someone who was gluten free. Another idea, I do no sugar but don't alert ahead of time and my waiters have all done a great job if I want something that has sugar in it. I get a "you don't want that" which I appreciate. Krazy Kruizers Posted April 30, 2014 #15 Share Posted April 30, 2014 I just remembered On our recent Nieuw Amsterdam cruise -- there was a sign at lunch in the Lido buffet (I do not remember seeing this sign when we were on the ship last November)
