CruisinClerys Posted May 1, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 1, 2014 We were on the Dawn in 2010 (loved it!) and the Breakaway in 2014 (loved it!). Will be sailing the Gem in 2015 & plan to love it, too! What do you love about the Gem?? We will have our 2 year old son with us, so bonus points for any kid friendly tips or tricks! Thanks! cliffd64 Posted May 1, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 1, 2014 I think the greatest asset of Gem is her crew... I loved Jenny Lin the Hotel Director! Her new(ish) secretary Daniela is great as well. Joseph, one of the waiters in Cagneys is fantastic - ask for his station when you go there! Carlos the concierge is equally amazing! He was wonderful! If you engage yourself with the crew you will find that they are all a great hard working bunch of people who will endeavor to make your trip a memorable one! medicalma'am Posted May 1, 2014 #3 Share Posted May 1, 2014 So glad to hear this. One of my favorite things is engaging with the crew and learning about their country, family at home, and life on a ship! I look forward to the Gem being in Houston in 2-16 and want to sail on her. mugtech Posted May 1, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 1, 2014 The crew is great, well seasoned in serving folks from NY and NJ, so I am sure they will enjoy serving you plus not being in NY in February.

Rare mking8288 Posted May 1, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 1, 2014 Hooooold on to your Guest Key Cards for the Nickoleden theme events & functions for kids, LOL & only use OBC for those breakfast and/or photo ops with Dora or Sponge Bob. One of our grand-niece was 2 when she sailed with rest of us and had an absolute "blast" on the GEM, fortunately - there're NOT that many children on the sailing (only like 200) but following our return - the Winter break sailing had 1,200 boarding. :D The Gem - it's the sense of energy, maybe synergy is a better word - her crew as a whole ! Team GEM was on the pier with the cold drink, wet towel, music & dancing to welcome everybody returning to the ship docked at St. Thomas after a long day ashore. (Can you spot Jenny, the Hotel Director ... lead by example) Answer key - she's in her white uniform, look directly under the "Gem" in the picture (wearing dark sunglasses)
spidybabe Posted May 1, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 1, 2014 Jenny is great!! I always dance with her dockside when we return to the ship... she will pull me out of the crowd to join her She will always try to join us at some point for dinner. We try not to sail when she is on vacation. Once she left in the middle of our cruise (Florida), and because of our dissapointment, she will never start vacation mid cruise again. She says we made her change her ways. Sign up for your roll call and go to the meet and greet to meet all of the crew (officiers) --the Gem has the best crew and wil bend over backwards for their passengers. Never sailed with children, so can't be helpful there, although whenever we saw the children at activities, they always looked sooo happy. Nick characters always around the ship Safe sailing

johnsak123 Posted May 1, 2014 #10 Share Posted May 1, 2014 One of the best things about the Gem for me was Sinan. Unfortunately he is on another ship but there are still plenty of things to love about the Gem The crew are great. I totally enjoy the food(except teppanyaki) I like the laid back atmosphere where I don't have to do anything or I can do everything I love to bowl, dance see shows and most of all lay on the balcony and watch the sea and horizon pass me by Its a win win. puddles99 Posted May 1, 2014 #15 Share Posted May 1, 2014 The Gem ROCKS! :D There's a link in my signature to a review of our trip in November. As others have already noted, Jenny is awesome. But honestly, the entire crew was great. Enjoy your adventure!
mommyto2girls Posted May 2, 2014 #16 Share Posted May 2, 2014 The Gem is our home away from home, it is the crew, the size and the great big welcome home feeling every time we sail her. Jenny is amazing.
njhorseman Posted May 2, 2014 #17 Share Posted May 2, 2014 It's my favorite NCL ship. Good crew, and just the right size for our tastes. (I don't care for the behemoth Beakaway, the other NCL ship sailing from NY. I only cruise on the BA because it's the only way to get to Bermuda from NY on NCL.)
