Live Lido Music Back Yet?

About a month ago, John Heald said on his FB page that live music is coming back to the Lido deck. I was just wondering if anyone has seen this yet? And if so, what type of music did they play? Was it a Calypso band?

Magic - Apr 6

There were two different individual performers playing during the afternoon on the Lido. Both played the guitar and one also played the harmonica. They played a wide range of music from 60s to current, country, and pop. I thought they were quality performers and a nice addition to the Lido. Both performers also played in various lounges in the evening.

On the Liberty in February there was live music played on the Lido deck each afternoon. There were 2 different soloists. They also played in the evenings at the atrium & other bars. I really enjoyed this! As i recall it was usually around 3 in the afternoon & I would relax in the hot tub, order a drink, relax & enjoy!

No live music on Lido deck on the Fantasy as of April 26th sailing.

There was a live band near the casino playing top 40 though.

Cruises to the Bahamas or Caribbean should have some "island" music.

I think Beach, Island, Reggae music etc;, set the tone of the cruise, but what do I know.

Just off te Breeze, sitting in the airport. Butch was asked this in a Q&A sesaion yesterday ad he said after the recent CD Conference it was decided that Calypso music on Lido would not be brought back. Instead they are looking for more of the modern type bands that can play all types of music, including some Caribbean music. On the Breeze, there were a couple of times when a solo artist would sing at Red Frog Rum Bar, and it was broadcasted on the Lido. I will say, except for embarkation day, the music and TV levels were pretty good, not deafening. Very good cruise with great weather.

Was on the Splendor 4/10 and we were lucky to have a non Carnival band, Jimmy and the Parrots, cruising with us. They played twice in El Morocco and then on the Lido the last sea day. They were fantastic. (google them) Played a little bit of everything.

We returned from the Dream recently and had live music on the Lido several times. It was great!!! They were usually playing at the Red Frog or the Iguana.

Oh, thank you, Betty! That sounds awesome!

  • 2 weeks later...
no i hope they keep the DJ its much better. :D:D:D
I think you have a point!

Live music means live musicians.

Most unfortunately for bean-counters, live musicians have to be paid, fed and watered.

And accommodated.

That sounds expensive, for something that reaallyy isn't that important

and which will ultimately add to the cost of your cruise.

Would cruisers mind if the fuel surcharge was re-applied, to help counter this added expense?

I didn't think so. :)

Please don't hijack my thread. I'm not really interested in a debate between which is better, DJ or live band at Lido. I just want to know if what John Heald had announced that the live Lido music was coming back has been implemented on any ship other than Dream.

Thank you!

Can any recent cruisers that sailed with the Breeze share any insight on the entertainment on the Lido on sea days? Just wondering if there is live music etc..New games to play to get everyone involved...no more hairy chest competition. The ice carving is good, but change the carving....etc.

The last two cruises I have been on, the sea day entertainment was pretty lame.

There was a DJ on the Freedom last week on the Lido. Also guitarists. Wish the DJ would have at least played more caribbean music and less of "Car Wash" and lots of other 70s songs. Volume was ok near the pool...even for the movies.

I guess guitarists are an improvement! Thank you DKLI. I'm booked on Freedom, so I was glad to hear that Freedom has at least some live music on Lido. I agree with you. The DJ/music isn't very enjoyable.
