The Definitive Answer NCL PLEASE !

NCL are you or are you not going to convert the "Observation Lounge" on the NCL SUN to suites or something else ???

While a poll has not been taken - the general reading indicates that that would be a serious mistake and very disturbing to a great many cruise customers !

Comments:

This is not the Disney ship with tons of kids running around - - -

This is not a fun ship from Carnival requiring loads of party room - - -

This is not an expensive ship compared to Holland-America thus don't change a thing to cost more - - -

This ship is not designed to compete with Princess - - -

And comparison with Celebrity is not necessary - - -

The NCL SUN is in a category all by itself - very unique !

If change is needed for the Sunset of the NCL SUN there had better be some damn good reasons for it !!!!!

NCL, please convert all Spinnaker lounges forward to suites and staterooms to make more ships available for us to book. We now book exclusively in those suites. Some of the best on NCL. Spinnakers are completely underutilized and the new suites are amazing!!!

Ick no! I was so sad on the star not having the beautiful spinnaker!! On the gem everything was in the spinnaker, it was much larger and more open than where they put it on the star. The room was cramped with the amount of people they jammed in there!

Spinnaker Lounges are so nice. I'm sad to see them being removed from ships. Remember when new ships started adding more balconies? Now it seems the suites are selling out, so to meet the demand they're adding more suites.

Here is another vote for leaving the observation lounge on the Sun and the open deck in front of it alone. We have stayed in deck 12 suites both with and without balconies on the Star and enjoyed both versions very much. The Star observation lounge was large and there was room to put a large number of suites and new inside staterooms in the space.

However, the Sun observation lounge is quite small so there isn't room for many suites and in my opinion is not worth taking away an area enjoyed by many. On our Alaska cruise the observation lounge was well utilized with people viewing the gorgeous scenery from both inside the lounge and outside on the open deck in front of it. Dance classes were held there and in the evening we enjoyed a very good duo.

In below photo you can see how small the lounge area is. You can see a door going into the lounge from the outside front viewing area. There is a corresponding door on the other side of the ship.

Here is a more straight on photo .... on another thread someone posted a great one and hopefully they'll come along and post it in this thread too.

Please let the Sun remain a classic beautiful ship with viewing room open to everyone.

Not sure how this rumor got started in the CC tradition. If you look at the cruises available on the Sun there is no gap for a dry dock from now until the end of the first season in South America 2016.

If they were planning a major remodel like the Star and the Dawn they would need at least a 3 week dry dock to get started. With the winter 2015-16 itineries now released this speculation should die down.

Sorry to say but don't waste your time!

Its all about the bottom line and they will do what they want understandably and they have to answer to shareholders.

They have done this on other ships and it will continue accommodate more profitable venues ie: Moderno, suites etc.

I say save the Observation Lounge on the Sun!

My opinion is that all the ships sailing Alaska should have an Observation Lounge, or Spinnaker at the front of the ship. That is what they did recently, only had those ships sailing to Alaska. The viewing is beautiful, but sometimes too cold to enjoy out on the open deck, hence "observation" lounge.

For itineraries where the weather is always comfortable enough to be out on deck, then the suites in that location suit the need.

I have made a list of the ships that still have this lounge in the front of the ship, and they are my list of favorite ships to sail. (That and the Great Outdoors in the back.)

Thread was about to be buried in the depth of the past posts - - -

NCL SUN Observation Lounge possible conversion to suites or other venue.

So far the preference for conversion is leaning -4-

The leave it be is leaning -9-

13 posts are hardly enough views for any action.

From another thread same subject

Sun Sailings

Dear Cruise Critic members, Norwegian Sun will continue to follow her scheduled itinerary and is not scheduled for dry dock until April 2016, upon completion of her South America 2016 Spring Season.
