CAS points

Recommended Posts

Good morning

I sailed on the Breakaway March 23- 30. Got about 2,000 pts (booking was from a land casino comp). Since the cruise was at the end of March do all my points disappear and I'm starting over on my next cruise in November? Not sure how it works I saw something that it goes from March to April.

Thanks

Call them up 877 752 9625 CAS they just gave me a deal on a future cruise. You have to deal with them direct to get the best comps.

DIRECT.

I did call them and did get a great deal for my next cruise. Just wondering if my points have to start over from zero.

Hi Geri! :)

For counting towards CAS status: Your 2000 points will stick around and count toward your next CAS level until March31, 2015. Basically, all points earned toward level from April 1, 2013 thru March 31, 2015 (two full years) will count toward your levels for now. On March 31, 2015, the points earned 4/1/13-3/31/14 will drop and you will start a new earning year. At that point (4/1/15 onward) your status will be based on points earned from 4/1/14 thru 3/31/16, again two full years)..

For counting toward OBC/cashing in at end of cruise: If you did not cash in points on your March Breakaway sailing, on your next sailing, go to the Casino Desk and ask them to bring your 2000 points forward (points can be pulled forward for up to 18 months). If you are sailing the Breakaway again, it should happen automatically, so check your card balance at the beginning of the sailing (AFAIK the BA is the only ship that does this, maybe the Getaway too?). Then, you can add more points to your balance and use them to cash in at the end of your November trip. FYI for anyone reading, those 2000 points brought forward from last sailing will NOT count toward getting the 1500 point drink card on a new sailing - you would have to earn another 1500 points on the new sailing to re-earn the drink card unless you are either booked hru CAS or have CAS status Hot or better.

Hope this makes sense!

Lol I was counting on you to read this Robin. Thank you as usuall. I did ask about my drink card and yes I'm getting it when I board in November. I'm happy my points will be there in November. I wasn't sure how it worked.

I hope the poster is right about the two years, but I think not.

As I undestand it, the EARNING year for the tier is one year. You will stay at that level for the remainder of the year, and a FULL year after that.

But, earning is during the one year, 12 month period and they reset.

By the way, their website still shows 2012-2013 for the "earning" period, so that is of little help.

Garycarla, I am absolutely sure that's the way they are running it right now (at least for the time being) and it is a bit contrary to what they say on the website. Actually, the website is not clear at all, and it took me a while with my CAS rep to figure out exactly how points are adding up for status at this time. It does not work like a standard land based casino status. Once you gain status you can keep it up to two years, but your points accrue on a rolling basis over two years from April 1 thru March 31 two years later, so the amount of time you retain status depends on exactly when you earn the points. For example, of you earn 15,001 points on one sailing in April 2014, you will maintain Golden status until March 31, 2016. Your status will have the same expiration date if you instead earned 15,001 points in March 2015. But if you earned your points in March 2014, your status will expire March 31, 2015. I actually earned VIP status in March this year, but dropped back to Golden on April 1, because my May 2012 points expired. Hope that makes sense..

My DH will be with me on my November cruise he was not with me on my last cruise as you know. He gambles as much if not more than me (he tends to do max credits on slots most of the time) should he play on my card or his own? Does it matter?

Absolutely have him get his own card if he plays a lot. At the end of your sailing, your points will combine for credit off your final bill (they can combine up to two people). He can also earn his own status based on his play. Then, when you call to book your next cruise, if he is coming with you, they will look at both your play combined for the best comp. My hubby hardly plays, so he doesn't help much and just rides on my coat tails. My daughter (who often sails with us) plays more than he does, and it's usually her points that combine with mine for final credit off the bill.

This is most intriguing. Do you have a source you can share to confirm it for us? I ask because I was told 1 year qualifying, AND reset at the next year (in other words you only keep it until the next qualifying date - unless you requalify).

It's per my CAS rep (I'd share his name but don't want to get him in trouble). I have kept close watch on my tier qualifying points since the new program began, and made Golden in last May 2013 on the Breakaway, with the points combined from two "qualifying years" (sailings in May 2013 and May 2012) -it was my first sailing in the "new qualifying year" and I did not make the 15,001 points needed on that sailing alone. I accrued more in Jan 2014, and again in Mar 2014, totaling roughly 35k points. On April 1, 2014, the points from my May 2012 sailing dropped off (but not the May 2013 or 2014 sailings) and my tier balance is now 26,320. The points I earn next week on the Jewel will (per my rep) be added to that cumulative total and would bump me back up to VIP if I make 9000 more points.

In the beginning it didn't seem like it was supposed to work this way, but that's the way it appears to be working currently. Hope it's not a mistake that they will correct now that I have posted it! I'll be watching closely next week on the Jewel and report back what happens, just in case it turns on me.:D

I do hope you're right, and that this is a change. Here's what they told me by email (my emphasis):

Currently he is golden level.

· If he will not cruise before March 31st 2014, comes April 1st 2014 he will be Hot. Total tier level points earned from April 2013 to April 2014 is 14,285.

· If he will cruise before March 31st 2014, he only needs 716 points to maintain his golden status comes April 1st 2014.

Interesting! Did you (he) make the full 15,001 points to make Golden from 4/1/12-3/31/13 or were some of the 2013-2014 points included? I could see dropping down to Hot once the previous year's points drop off. But the big question is, if you (he) sailed today would the new points be added to the 14,285 or would you (he) be starting at net zero again? the last sentence leads me to believe it would be net zero, but my experience from the previous year shows differently.. I suppose this could go either way... Well I guess we'll see how it all plays out soon! When is your (his) next sailing?

As an FYI, I was Golden Feb & March this year, I dropped down to Hot in April, I needed about 1000 points to go back up to Golden which I did so I should be Golden until next April (If they don't evaluate and have dropped points until April 1st 2015)

Yes, that's been my experience as well. Have you confirmed that your recent points earned have actually added to "last year's" total - with either CAS or onboard your sailing? I'd be very interested in knowing, as I am close to making VIP, and may do so on my sailing next week if things are working that way..

Hi!

I can confirm it. I was about 700 points shy of VIP getting on my Gem cruise on April 5. I made VIP within an hour or two of the casino opening. They calculated that by adding my April 1, 2013- March 31, 2014 points together with what I earned on Gem in April 2014. They elevated me to VIP immediately (and by the way, although normally the benefits wouldn't go into effect until the next cruise, the casino manager said she had the discretion to implement it for that cruise for everything except the soda package, and since it was within hours of boarding she would do so - so if you are close and hit on the first day or so, ask...). When I called after my cruise to check points and book another cruise, they gave me a point total that included all of 2013 plus what I earned on Gem in April 2014.
