JAN2355 Posted May 24, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 24, 2014 We will be on the Silhouette in September and intend to do Mykonos on our own. We are tendered in I think but have read it is quite a walk to the town. What transport would be available and at what cost and frequency to get you there and back of course. I did read somewhere that there was a water bus that took you very near the town - anyone know the details please? Also would be glad of any advice as to what there is to see and how long this would take comfortably to walk. Many thanks for any help.
Wj420 Posted May 24, 2014 #2 Share Posted May 24, 2014 When we had the pleasure of visiting, there were celebrity shuttles. I believe the fare was $12.00 round trip. From the drop point, it is still a bit of a walk. The walk from the tender point is long. Mykonos is a perfect port to do your own thing. We had the best grilled fish lunch by the water. Enjoy!! Rare ghstudio Posted May 24, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 24, 2014 (edited) There are two places the ship can anchor. One tenders you to the middle of town...the other, the more usual dock, is a long walk from the town....but Celebrity does have a bus (for a fee) that takes you from the ship to the edge of town which is close enough. Then it's relatively easy wandering on your own on the street by the water or the back strees or walk up to the windmills. I can't imagine why anyone would take an excursion in Mykonos. Gracie115 Posted May 24, 2014 #5 Share Posted May 24, 2014 The only excursion that is worth taking on a Mykonos port stop is to take a ferry to Delos, which we really found interesting. If you are only going into town then the shuttle to town and begin wandering....you can wander for hours on all the little streets and in the 100's of shops there....:)

Rare TLCOhio Posted May 25, 2014 #7 Share Posted May 25, 2014 Lots of good things to see and do in Mykonos on your own. This includes walking around this charming village. We also got a rental car and explored some of the beach areas. Nice, compact island. Fortunately for our day on this island, there were only two small ships in port. That made things more manageable. Plus, having great weather makes things even better. See a few of my visual samples for ideas to consider. For Athens, Greece, check out this posting with many ideas, tips and exciting visuals.
