How do I bring the allowed wine onto the cruise ship?

I recently found out that each stateroom is allowed to bring 2 bottles of wine or champagne onboard from home. Does anyone have any experience with this? Do I just put this bottles in my bag and tell them I have it? I hate doing anything that may get me in trouble, so any information is GREATLY appreciated!

We brought a bottle of wine in our carry on luggage (for our gift for the mix-and-mingle Cruise Critic Gift Exchange) and ran it through xray... at security. No one said a thing.

It has to be in your carry on bag. If you put it in your checked bag, expect a trip to the naughty room.

The way things work is, that you won't get into trouble for things you are allowed to do. Enjoy your wine.

I think bringing wine on was a waste. We brought two bottles and ended up giving them to the cabin guy since we never got around to drinking them. We might on an Alaskan cruise since it's not so hot, but we mostly drink wine with dinner otherwise, and feel kind of cheap carrying in our own glass. If you stay in your room a lot it may be more worth it. I packed them around in my backpack for three hours for no good reason :)

It's no big deal. Just carry them on either in the store bag, different bag, backpack, whatever. You don't have to say anything and no one says anything to you. It's a non-event. Enjoy your wine!

….except when boarding in Baltimore….they are on some power kick.

 

We have sailed from Baltimore many times and each time the "liquids" gestapo at security would ask if we had liquids before we put our items through the x-ray. We would have to take them out and a woman would hold each up and thoroughly examine the caps.

 

On each cruise she did the same for wine bottles, water bottles, soda bottles…anything liquid.

 

I guess it is Baltimore security's way of feeling powerful.

 

In other embarkation ports, carrying on wine/water bottle/soda bottle was a breeze.

We brought on a white and a red in a double bottle holder. They pulled us aside as they must have scanned as different densities, checked the tops were sealed, and then we were on our way. It is allowed, have them out as open as possible, and there is no problems. Enjoy.

Just off Freedom of the Seas...they were in my carry-on...no problem at all. Steward brought glasses daily (I would bring my one glass of wine to dinner or the casino and leave the glass there) and supplied a corkscrew.

Many people stop at a lounge for a drink before dinner and will carry their drink into the dining room. No one knows if your glass of wine has come from your stateroom or a lounge as the glasses all look alike.

Well you could do that.

 

But the ones in your checked baggage might be confiscated . . . because the guidelines are they must be carried on by you, 2 bottles per cabin.

 

But, you could get lucky and they dont see them.

Our last RC Cruise was a B2B on the Adventure Of The Seas March/April 2012 out of San Juan. At that time you weren’t allowed to carry on wine. Doing another B2B Cruise on the Adventure March/April 2015 out of San Juan. Is there a liquor store in the port area to buy wine on our turn around day? We did this on our March/April 2014 B2B Cruise on the Summit.

On Princess line ships any wine brought on board after the 1 per person of legal age has the option of paying a $15 per 750 ml corkage fee. These bottles are marked and can be taken to where you eat.
