DRS/NC Posted May 28, 2014 #1 Share Posted May 28, 2014 I'm a "senior" woman taking my first solo cruise in July -- no worries there as I've cruised many times w/late DH & w/friends. However, I want to visit a site in Ireland for which there is no ship's tour. I've contacted 2 different tour companies, but their refund policies are a problem. E. Dunsmore/Waterford is a tender port & could easily be dropped if the weather/sea is rough. Also, there is little interest in my idea on the Roll Call. I'm thinking I should wait until I get into the port & try to hire a car/driver & just go. It's possible that I might find another pax or 2 to go with me. I wonder if I should go it alone? It would be about 5 hours for the excursion.

That can be a good way to meet other folks and many times other people are looking to share in a private tour as well....more enjoyable and saves everyone $$$:D
DRS/NC Posted May 29, 2014 Author #3 Share Posted May 29, 2014 Thanks, Lois, but as I mentioned above, there is little interest in this excursion on my roll call.
journeymore Posted May 30, 2014 #4 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Thanks, Lois, but as I mentioned above, there is little interest in this excursion on my roll call. I think I would try the roll call again. Maybe there is another solo cruiser or couple that joined recently. Also, a lurker may be out there. If not, I would wait until I get on the ship and possibly someone at your dinner table may like to join you. I'm not sure I'd feel safe alone in a taxi for 5 hours. JMHO. Enjoy your cruise. DRS/NC Posted May 30, 2014 Author #5 Share Posted May 30, 2014 Yes, I'm concerned about the comfort/safety factor of going alone. Unfortunately, I can't wait until on board to book a private tour & I can't/won't take on the full cost alone. gues, I'll wait another week & see. Rare Lois R Posted May 31, 2014 #6 Share Posted May 31, 2014 (edited) Hi again,:) did you check the board for Ireland? Maybe you can get some suggestions from people who have used a private company and can get a recommendation that way. I went to the Med for the first time back in 2012 and took a private tour (on my own), pre cruise.....the tourguide was actually the owner of the company and she and I toured Rome together. It was wonderful:D Yes, it was a bit pricey but worth every penney to me. I also found she got excellent reviews on Trip Advisor. Good luck in your search.:) Edited May 31, 2014 by Lois R
