Which private island/beach are you visiting? As for shade, all of the private beaches (for all the cruiselines) have plenty of trees for shade....just drag your lounger where you want it! Yes...there is almost always a charge for clamshells and cabanas. You don't need one, tho, to get out of the sun!

The best, prettiest, softest sandiest beach (besides Bermuda) is Half Moon Cay, hands down! You walk out in that water, and it is clear, and soft. Every once in a while you will find a sand brick, but that is rare.

Most people will tell you HMC (Half Moon Cay) which is a lovely beach.

We sort of prefer CoCo Cay because we can sit in loungers in the shade very close to a beach and also quite near a beach bar.

We've never needed water shoes at either of those. :)
