Swimsuit: Looking for a supportive yet sexy suit

Recommended Posts

Wow, it is really difficult to know what you might be looking for, so I will get the party started with a photo of a suit I bought recently from 6PM.com. You will have to let us know if this is your idea of sexy, or something you think your Granny should be wearing, or something in between! It is very flattering on me, anyway!

How much support do you need? This has a mesh "bra" and elastic under the bust -- some support, though I would like more for my 36DD bust. The surplice shape of the suit adds to the support. The leg is not very high cut, but enough for me. It has a pretty high back, so that might kill the sexiness factor for you...

"Shape Solver" is the brand, "Elpavon Surplice Mio" is the style. It's on clearance for $22 right now ($80 reg.)

I was shopping in TJ Maxx today (the one in Thousand Oaks, CA) and they had a ton of swimsuits. They have every style (one piece, bikinis, tankinis, etc., in every color and all kinds of prints...you name it they have it. I would have picked up a couple but I already have about 5 brand new, never before worn swimsuits. I don't know where you live but if you have a TJ Maxx in your area...that's where I'd check first. They also have all types of cover ups, from short dresses to long ones, pants, just every kind you could imagine. They have flimsy bathing suits and very structured ones that would provide ore coverage. They've got it all, including lots of beautiful, colorful beach towels. Check it out!:D

Profile by Gottex. Sold at better department stores and Everything But Water. Fantastic suits, they offer tummy control without being "dowdy." Bottoms come in everything from bikini to skirted.

Nordstrom has some really nice one piece suits. They are bit pricey but so worth it IMO to have a suit that you can feel good in. I just bought this one and I love it. It holds everything in but it's still sexy.

I also love those halter suits from modcloth. There are tons of patterns to choose from and they are very flattering.

OMG! I love, love, love that Navy suit! It's amazing!:D If I hadn't already bought several new swimsuits already that I haven't worn...I'd run as fast as I could to the store and buy that suit. It's beautiful and very sexy!:D

Wow ladies, great suggestions! The Profile suits look & sound great, and so do the Everything but water. Have to say Modcloth has some really different, interesting ones. The 6pm website was a great tip too.

I had company arriving from out of town this weekend, so I was a bit distracted, but did get to look at a few...including that same navy blue one from Nordstrom. It looks like a stunner.

Well, now I'm overwhelmed. Will spend a few days whittling down my list, then order a few to try. I'm so excited to think I might find something I feel good in! Haven't bought a new suit in 6 years because I was living overseas, plus had a baby in the meantime.

Thanks so much for the responses, it is encouraging.

I agree about the Esther Williams suits from Modcloth. I have two of them and I love them. In black like the link above with polka dots, and this new lobster print I'm so in love with! http://www.unique-vintage.com/vintage-1950s-style-pin-up-blue-lobster-swimsuit.html Modcloth is sold out on the lobster print, but Unique Vintage has the same suits and for about $8 less.

I'm 34D and they are supportive enough without having actual underwire. I think these are sexy in a vintage pin up way. I do not like to show a lot of skin but don't want to look like a grandma either.

I've had my eye on this one too. http://www.unique-vintage.com/unique-vintage-red-ruched-mansfield-halter-swimsuit.html Very va va voom.

Love this one too. Reminds me of the vintage Barbie swimsuit but with straps. http://www.unique-vintage.com/unique-vintage-black-white-striped-dinah-swimsuit.html

Check out Miraclesuit too. I find them at Macy's, but they are cheaper online. They have bra-sizing and though expensive, are very durable. I waterski and jetski in mine all summer.

I agree they are durable, I used to wear them. My problem with them is that they haven't really changed their styles in 20 years and IMHO, are dated looking.

I'm typically a bikini girl, but I have a 3 year old, 2 year old, and 6 month old (yeah, body is destroyed, lol). I'm currently working on getting back in shape, so didn't want to spend a lot on a swimsuit and still wanted to look sexy (I'm only 31!). I ordered this suit ( http://mobile.walmart.com/ip/Suddenly-Slim-by-Catalina-Women-s-Shirred-Halter-Swimsuit/17804497) in red and black. The reviews have a ton of pictures, women of all shapes and sizes. I actually look really great in this suit. Can't wait to wear it!

  • 8 months later...

I'm reviving this thread because I'd love some suggestions for classy and stylish two-pieced swimsuits. I'm 31 years old, a fairly large bust, about 142 lbs, and fairly slim but with wobbly bits I'm self-conscious about like most people. I haven't done a bikini lately and I'm thinking I should rock one the sooner the better, but I'm not interested in anything flimsy or very low-rise or held together strictly with strings. It needs to be substantial enough to support my chest nicely and flatter my post-baby tummy!

Any suggestions? I've been eyeing some of the Tommy Bahama bikinis, but they're awfully pricy so I'd love some other ideas for places to look.

I am in love with the suits at Modcloth. Adorable, sexy and so flattering! Plus I love that they are using their staff as models! Gives you a really good idea of what the suit looks like on a lot of different body types.

I've been considering trying one of these pinup-girl style bikinis. High waisted to cover my stretch marks (thanks kids), but draw focus to the bust line and seem very flattering. I thought this one was super cute, and perfect for a cruise:
