Hi this will be our first time taking BART to pier. Denise how easy is the walk?
I have also seen post for taking cab from the Hyatt. Is it better to walk?
We are on the October 18th on the Star.
Thanks Cheryl :D

"I just saw that, too. We are on the October 1 sailing and really hope we will be at Pier 27. It's a little shorter walk from BART.

Cheers, Denise."

We have walked many times from the Embarcadero BART station to pier 35 so pier 27 should be easier. Hubby is early 60s while I am late 50s. We are pretty active though, he's out backpacking in the Sierras right now. It is all flat and would take us about 20 minutes with luggage in tow.

It is an easy walk. My DH uses a cane and he can do it in less than 30 minutes.

If there is a lot of traffic on the Embarcadero, you can make it faster walking. We have spinner suitcases and a backpack each.

Cheers, Denise

  • 4 weeks later...

YEA!!!I received my Invitation to the Grand Opening with the Mayor on September 27th and conformation of the Soft Opening with the media on September 18th. I've been invited to the events by the SF Port Director and I'll be reporting both events along with photos. Looking forward to see the new terminal.

You say here at the grand opening with the Mayor is on September 27 and yet in your later post you said it was on the 25th. I'm just wondering because I will be on the Grand Princess which docks overnight at Pier 27 on September 25 and it could be a real mess if the grand opening is taking place while everyone is trying to get off the ship for excursions and the like.

Wow, so the ceremony does take place while our ship is docked. Hopefully there will not be too much confusion with all excursion buses dropping people off right in the middle of the ceremony. I know the one I am taking returns to the ship at 1:30 PM and I was then hoping to catch a bus or cab to Fisherman's Wharf or Chinatown. I guess that will depend on the crowds.

Well, now I am worried as I am on the same cruise as faircliff, but my excursion is taking place at 1:45, seeing as we are in port at 8am, I was going to go sightseeing first, then come back to the ship in time to catch my excursion...so now what? Does anyone have any suggestions?

There will not be any on-site parking other than for drop-offs. There just isn't any room at all for it. There are a couple of garages in the area that do allow long term parking but I believe reservations in advance are required.

And they are kind of pricey. $18 to $28 per day, depending on your car.

Fleet week will fall on a Saturday the 11th, so be prepare for long traffic jams along the embarcadero.

We are cruising on 10/1 to Mexico and arriving back in SF on 10/11. We decided to stay on the Star and do the Coastal!! We can see the Blue Angels from the ship and because it is a B2B, we won't have to muster!! I've been wanting to go to San Diego, so we will go by ship instead of driving there. :D

Cheers, Denise
