Diamond and Up Drink Vouchers - List of Ships Using them

Recommended Posts

I just got mine for our Freedom cruise, but it's not until March 2015!

I'll be interested to hear how it works. I'm cruising with a Platinum and an Emerald, so it will be nice to be able to join them in the champagne bar. Will these three vouchers be for any drink from 5 PM till 8 PM? Is this in place of drinks in the DL or can one still go in there for a glass of wine?

We were on the Serenade in April and you could go into the DL/CL for drinks during the happy hour but as there were so many of us you could just show your card in the Schooner Bar Safari Club or Casino and get drinks during that time as well

Sailing on EOS July 31st and I see the drink vouchers will be available for our cruise. Great! Rules: 3 per night and only during the hours of 5:30-8:30 which are the CL and Diamond lounge hours, correct? Any limitation as to what you can order; beer and wine or mixed cocktails too?

I to have not received email about the vouchers and I cruise on Radiance in November; Indy in December; and Serenade in Dec 2015.

You will probably receive the email soon. People on my December roll call mentioned it.

Funny you should post that…I was just sitting here reading this thread thinking that that drink vouchers would have solved my little problem on Legend on our PC cruise in April!;) (so maybe it's just been your good luck!) Up until April, I've never had a request denied either, but Legend was different!

I ordered a Bloody Mary in the DL. Not a big deal, right? Nothing fancy - just vodka and BM mix. BUT NO! After 20 minutes, we asked the D Concierge what was taking so long with our drinks. He told me they are "not allowed" to make Bloody Marys in the DL. (Huh? - since when? And how come nobody told us that - were they just going to let us sit there all evening?) He further told me that the CL is "not allowed" to make a Bloody Mary either because it's not on THE LIST. So, we left the DL and proceeded to the CL where they did indeed make me a Bloody Mary with no question and no problem.

Next day I got a glass of tomato juice in the Windjammer and they put plastic wrap on the top for me. It spent the day in my ice bucket and I took it to the DL that night because I'm stubborn. (I have one drink each night in there, and I want what I want.:o) The D Concierge told me the bartender is "not allowed" to make a BM even if I supplied the tomato juice. So I ordered: vodka on the rocks, a tall glass of ice, 2 olives on a pick, a lime segment, and a swizzle stick. I mixed my own drink in the DL that night. Had to prove a point, ya know...

Of course, we figured out how to solve this problem easily by just never going back to the DL on Legend again and simply using the CL, where they make very tasty Bloody Marys and evidently have a different copy of THE LIST.

Vouchers would have been just fine on Legend!! We cruise Navigator on Aug 24 but haven't gotten any communication about vouchers. Bob's Nav cruise is in Sept, so I'm assuming that's the month they start on Navigator. So I won't get to try the vouchers out in Aug - darn!

Judy

I thought you said on another thread that it was in the CL that you couldn't get a Bloody Mary and you got them in the DL with no problem.

They had this on the Freedom a few months ago. We could go to any bar during the same times that the DL was serving. You had to tell them up front that you were getting your 'free' Diamond drinks. The bartender showed us the list of what was available. I have seen the list posted on various threads here before. Basically mixed drinks. I asked for a Rum Punch, they told me NO. Then I asked for Rum and Coke; that was OK... Of course, that may depend on the bartender... They run your Sea Pass and you have to sign for the $0.00 price for the drink. The line was their for adding a tip on the bill. When I put the tip on there, it showed up on my Sea Pass.

On Indy we had it

You do tell your server and there is a list of what you can have using the voucher.

White wine-- we had Pinot Grigio!!! So, we had 2 choices but only 1 in the CL.

On Indy it was 1 drink per sea pass card, if you ordered 2 on a card it came up on their register as a BOGO.

Is it true you have to tell the bar tender or waiter you are using your free drink?

It probably depends on the bartender. They see your CA level when you hand them the card at the time you place the order so they might be anticipating you are ordering the free drink. Not quite the same thing, but we were pleasantly surprised when we each ordered a glass of wine with dinner in the MDR and our waiter automatically used the BOGO which was great because neither if us thought it could be used in the MDR. The next night when we ordered, he suggested we use my card since we had used DH's card the night before.

We just got off the Radiance and in the CL lounge the barman (Rosario) was amazing, if he could make you your request with what he had he did. In the past we have be very lucky with our CL/DL bar staff, sometimes it helps to tip $5 on the first night. (Martini's, Lemon Drop's, Bloody Mary's...)

I did notice a difference in service from the DL and CL but I think its because the DL on this ship uses the bar in the Viking Crown/Stardust and the 2 staff also served normal paying customers.

Does anyone know how long they have been testing this new perk out?

Kind of cool that you can grab a pre-drink on your way up to the lounge...hahaha

See you guys on the Oasis crossing in Sept. !! :)

They trialled the voucher system months ago on a few ships but it's now going fleet wide. So you did have the vouchers on the radiance?

I haven't seen this mentioned; are the vouchers only good in bars?

Thanks,

Barb

This is what my email said:

This expanded benefit will be slowly rolled out across the entire fleet by Fall. Kindly note, drinks vouchers are not valid in the main dining room, the Windjammer Café or in any of our specialty restaurants, and expire daily.

We are sailing on Oasis in November and just got an email about the drink vouchers. I think it is a great perk! I don't think I was ever in the diamond lounge long enough to enjoy 3 drinks and OMG if we tried to leave the lounge with one in our hand!
