Jolie_Cruiser Posted April 1, 2015 Author #3 Share Posted April 1, 2015 Good news for cruisers who enjoy sailing the Canada/New England route. Eventually, no more tendering to visit Bar Harbor. A final deal is imminent to buy a ferry terminal from the Canadian government. Interesting article here (I was waiting for the final announcement but no article out yet): http://www.cruisemaineusa.com/news/sale-drawing-near-former-canadian-ferry-terminal-mdi 55 millions for the ports of Montreal and Québec City. More details here: http://www.cruiseandferry.net/articles/government-to-invest-in-cruise-ship-operations-in-qu233bec-and-montr233al#.VRvoC_mG_mc That article does not say there will be no more tendering in Bar Harbor. There have been suggestions that a long pier could be built from the property into Frenchman Bay so large cruise ships could dock in Bar Harbor instead of dropping anchor in the bay and then sending passengers ashore in tenders — which sometimes is prevented by rough weather. "Suggestions that a long pier could be built" is a long way from no more tendering in Bar Harbor.

sail7seas Posted May 6, 2015 #7 Share Posted May 6, 2015 It's a very short tender ride in Bar Harbor though the fog sometimes is so dense, it necessitates a bridge officer riding every tender back and forth from ship to shore.
