On board as well, coast guard requiring us to return to Seattle. Fire reported as extinguished. Only crew action was required.

I just checked Luvtotrvl's link to the camera at Seattle. It is now 7:36PM Seattle time and the Westerdam is still docked at Seattle.

A boiler room fire in the Holland America ship Westerdam to turn around and head back to Seattle.

The ship was on its way to Alaska when the fire broke out.

The Coast Guard said the fire was put out, but flared up again.

A tugboat escorted the ship back to Pier 91 where it could be inspected.

No injuries were reported.

My daughter and brand new son-in-law were continuing their honeymoon on board for their first trip to Alaska. She called to let me know they are fine in case something hit the news. Fire started about an hour after leaving Seattle and was in the boiler room. Crew contained it and put it out but it reignited twice. Happened right after their lifeboat drill so caused some initial confusion. Coast guard is escorting ship back to Seattle to be inspected and determine if repair is possible to continue cruise. At least they are waiting in comfort. I have assured her that, if not, HAL will help them make whatever arrangements they need to make. Are you listening, HAL?
