Naples National Archaeological Museum Opening times...

The museum is always closed on Tuesdays. You can find information on the hours on the official website:

As Hank would say, it's good to check in advance of your cruise about openings/closings for museums and sites. Unfortunately (or fortunately depending on your point of view), the Naples museum is unusual in Italy for being closed on Tuesdays instead of Mondays, the traditional museum closing day.

And of course, the Vatican museum is closed on Sundays -- except for the last Sunday of each month when it is open, free, and usually mobbed.

Edited to add: Sorry, I just noticed that the "auto editor" on Cruise Critic blocked four letters in the url, making it impossible to get to the page. (Arrghh.) If you click on the link, then go in and replace the four asterisks with the 4-letter name of the political party of Hitler, you should be able to get to the site.

The museum is fantastic but it seemed to us they open or close sections on a whim. When we were there last year, they closed entry into the rooms with the mosaics at 2:00. We got in with about one minute to spare.

I know that it seems arbitrary to us, but it's no different than any major museum in the States. Most simply don't have the funds to staff every room of the museum every day for the full day, so they rotate closings. I've run into the same frustration at the Metropolitan in New York many, many times.

If there are specific rooms you want to see, stop at the information desk when you first arrive and ask when these rooms will be open.
