Triumph cabin 6421....warning

Just got in today from a short 5 night cruise on the Triumph. We booked 10 days prior to leaving and this was the only balcony cabin available, I didn't do my homework, this was the cabin from Hades. It's over the Piano bar so there is a lot of late evening loud-ish music that may be a problem for some, the real issue was people congregating outside our door in the hallway before heading to their cabins, there is a wide hallway right in front of this cabin, stairs are on the right and a bank of elevators to the left, very noisy until very late, we also had many children yelling and running up and down the hallways, makes you wonder where the parents are but they're right there, yucking it up. Do people not take into consideration that people may be sleeping?

The Triumph and the cabin itself were fine, no complaints at all about anything other than the lack of regard for other passengers.

Everyone is there to have a good time but please...think about someone other than yourself and take care of your kids! Not everyone thinks your little darlings, running down the hallways, blowing plastic whistles at 10:30 pm is endearing nor your loud laughter thinking how cute it is.

I'm not crazy about deck 6 on the conquest class ships. You're right above deck 5, the noisiest deck on the ship.:( There's bars, shows going on, the casino, etc. I usually try to get deck 7 that's sandwiched between decks that are all cabins. ;) I had an experience similar to yours with a last minute cruise where I had few cabin choices and I was also very inexperienced in cruising and cabin selection. Lesson learned. Next time you find yourself in this situation, you can go to the pursers desk and get free ear plugs. They help tremendously.

I don't think a note would have gone over well at all, unfortunately. I did ask a group of people with a screaming baby to please quiet down or move away from our door as we were trying to sleep to which they replied "you shouldn't have booked that cabin", uh gee, thanks for understanding!

Like I said tho, we enjoyed the short getaway, everything else was fine but we did dread returning to our cabin at night.

cruisinqt, you're so right, a great lesson of "live and learn". We have a cruise scheduled for February 2015 on Quantum of the Seas and one of the first things I looked at when we got home today was the location of our cabin. We don't cruise the big ships often, however I know what to look for in the future. Truthfully, had I known the location disadvantages when I booked, we'd have not gone. And we did have ear plugs, for what it's worth! Thanks for your words of wisdom :) I appreciate it.

That's your opinion and I appreciate it. We're not late night people and I'd expect respect. You may be a late night person, we are not. Just remember....everyone on the ship also paid for their cabin and should not be expected to listen to you or your children being extremely noisy at any time. Again...it's called respect.

On the two cruises we have been on (Triumph, Magic), we usually had the lights out by 10:30 as well..if not earlier. We are not party people..we are morning people. You would find us waiting for the gym to open to hit the treadmills, or up on the top deck walking around the track watching the day unfold.

That said, we don't expect quiet in the hallways that early. Frankly it would be have to be a lot of noise after midnight before I would even think it inappropriate. After all you are on a Cruise Ship...everyone is looking to have a good time, and for most on-board, good times do not stop at 10:30. You know this when you book it...regardless of cabin location.

I think 10:30 is a little early to expect peace and quiet on a cruise ship.

It's about respecting others rights. Noise in the hallway or in a room is not acceptable. On a cruise ship or a hotel. However your post only helps with the bad image of Carnival as being the party boat and walmart of the seas!

I would have that same opinion regardless of what cruise line I would happen to be sailing.

I would say excessive noise at inappropriate hours is not acceptable.

But there is no way the Cruise Critic body could come to a consensus on what is excessive and inappropriate hours. And my guess is you won't see any cruise line establish such policy either. Late hours means more gambling, more drinking, more profit. And that is the only reason they are in business in the first place..and I mean all cruise lines.

Do we all have to be quiet at 2pm because little Ralphy or Aunt Gertrude is taking a nap somewhere on the ship?

Yeah, because on no other cruise line will one experience an issue with noise in the hallways.

I understand your distaste for CCL, but you are clearly grasping at straws with this one...

Thanks for the warning!! I will keep that in mind when looking for a cabin. We plan on booking some last minute cruises and I like to be aware of which cabins to choose, if we have a choice.

I have no problem with Carnival at all. As I posted, we have/had no issues with anything on the cruise other than the noise factor. You're right, not gonna win, not gonna try, I just began this thread with a warning not to book this particular cabin if noise is an issue. OK, so I'm the bad guy. Just let it go.

Picomullet, you're welcome. Like I said, I didn't do my homework when booking this last minute cruise. Just a bad cabin choice but the rest of the cruise was very nice. Enjoy your future travels.

My post was not directed to you. My post was directed to the person that has declared CCL as "Walmart of the Seas" because of hallway noise.

Thanks for the warning. And you are right OP, one must do their "homework" when picking a cabin. We use cruise deck plans dot com, you can overlay the decks on top of each other to see what is above and below you. We often book the 6th (Upper) Deck, but are always very cautions of where....mostly over the gift shops and /or the dining room which is quieter at night and away from elevators and stairs. Thanks again for the "heads up"!!

Just got off this same cruise and I have never seen so many children on a cruise. Let me re-state that: SO many disrespectful children and parents!

Screaming 2 and 3 years old kids that were kept up way too late in the dining room at 9:30 is wrong on so many levels. And then the parents who just keep eating and don't even try to quiet them down. The overrun swimming pools where you couldn't even stand at the side without being splashed. Kids who were spitting hot tub water at each other, etc... I think parents just think they do not have to parent on cruises.

We did make the best of things and moved tables in the dining room. We had an awesome quiet room on Deck 10 #1066.

I really wish they would have made the aft pool area adults only. It would not be that hard to do.

I do sympathize with you.

I can relate. We had 6375 on Triumph and the noise/music from deck 5 was terrible. I have no recollection whatsoever of why we chose deck 6, our mistake for not looking at deck maps, but since then we've never booked a cabin right above lounges or the casino.

I was more bothered by people slamming their doors and talking in the hall at full volume at 6:30 in the morning. I wanted to sleep in during my vacation and the early risers can be just as disrespectful and annoying as the night owls.

We had a cabin across the hall from us last month on the Dream full of kids. apparently the parents thought it ok to send the kids to bed while they went and partied. While i yelled at the kids, banging on the door trying to get their attention, they could not hear me.....eventually 2 other cabins ended up calling and security came. after the 2nd time, we never heard a peep again from them. parents, don't leave your kids unattended...I love kids...but please, if you bring your kids on vacation, you are still a parent. You only get to "not be a parent" if your kids are safe at home with grandma or someone else you trust. then you can be on vacation from parenting.

I'm so glad you posted this. I could end making the same mistake. Hopefully if it happens my soundspa will help. These things are great, even though my husbands snoring went down when he got his CPAP, I'm so used to having it and it helps with other noises. For those of you who don't know what it is, it's white noise (static, rain, river, fan noises, etc.) You can even download the app for iphones and androids and pop your earbuds in or an external speaker. I used this on my ipod docking at home, sounds great.

I have a cheap homedics, only cost $20 quite a few years ago, but it still works, both battery and electric. This gets taken on roadtrips and cruises.

The problems the OP states while I am sure they were true on that cruise. May not be true and the next. It all comes down to the people on board. And I am sure that is true and all cruise lines. It all comes down to the luck pf the draw. All you can do us try to minimize the potential bad and hope for the best.

Thanks so much to those who feel my pain. Curisin Newbie, I'm glad I wasn't the only person who noted the noise. I do get it that people are on vacation and having fun, I too would like to enjoy my vacation too and for the most part we did. Like I said, this was the only balcony cabin available due to our last minute booking, but it won't happen again :), I'm sooooo going to look at deck plans in the future. And the poster who mentioned each cruise is different, you're right. I guess we can put this topic "to bed". Thanks to all for taking the time to share your words of wisdom.
